If they do that, then there goes the buses. Private companies aren't going to run their own motorcoaches into the ground to handle money-losing city services.

Agreed. Then I suggest that the vast majority of their personal holdings be liquidated to get CIE back into shape.

Not entirely true...after all, most private companies ended up in government hands due to their inability to operate city services. Re-privatise, and these companies will indeed cause big problems for Bertie if he doesn't take care of them on a regular basis. There's also the voters to consider--if quality takes a nose-dive (i.e. from the current status quo), the politicians will be getting earful after earful...

Most likely his own pocket, assuming that his company is too small to issue shares. Look for bus quality to plummet, though, as well as fares to fluctuate wildly. And drivers? If you think that CIE ones are surly, you ain't seen nothing yet. Happy New Year to you too, and since hope doesn't seem to be working out, I'm resorting to prayer...

Private companies aren't going to run their own motorcoaches into the ground to handle money-losing city services.glad you agree with most of what i said 'but brennan still seems determined to break the whole lot up 'i have a reasonable understanding of the set up .i have an uncle who drives buses in blighty both post@pre privatisation he often told me how it annoyed him to see the only improvement in anything was in the pockets of the likes of stagecoach @national express.he told me on many an ocassion on abusy friday eve when that operaters bus;s were all used up it was a case of get ur own way home son . at least here at the minute here if a service is full the obligation is on cie 2 get u home it normally takes a while but i always get home i have 2 give it 2 most of the drivers @inspectors they do stirling work with what seems 2 be a totally useless management which i think seems 2 b where most of the probs lie these r all politically appointed @ no f**k all about public transport how is privatisation going 2 solve that.my uncle worked with a lot of the post privatisatin companys only 2 see the same over @over again people left stranded every where just because that days financial target was met'needless 2say he eventually gave up@retired he can see the same pattern emerging here'no matter what speel is put on it i would respect his viewpoint as he had been at it 4 over 30 yps.if he thinks thers trouble ahead id b inclined 2 believe him @ as i said before i couldnt stand 2 see the likes of ahern@co benifit while we poor sods go 2 the wall altogether,so long public trans hello private fatcat trans[god help us.'
