Hi folks,
I'm writing an article at the moment about bus-travel ( I get the 46A, 145,84 and 45 meself). I was wondering if you could help me out with regard to what the best and worst bus routes in Dublin are with regard to regularity and consistancy... and anything else you might like to add!
Thanks!

with the 46A, 145's being so frequent your never waiting long but you know that already.
65B/50's are brutal, never on time and thats if they even show up at all.
54A's have developed a tendency to go sharp since they moved up to kiltipper, I've had to complain to donnybrook a couple of times.

the 39 route might be one of the more frequent routes in the city but is by far one of the worst. overloading, not enough running time, journey time one of the worst in the city, at one stage it took nearly 3 hours to get from ongar in to town one morning.
The problem with most routes now is running time. i.e. a driver only has say 1 and a half hours to get from A to B ,but if it takes 2 hours something somewhere has to give and that is buses not turning up.Posted 3 years ago # -
I agree with what has been said already. Best route I know is the 145, which flies me out to my folks in Shankill. The 65B is appallingly unreliable, and has twice caused me to almost miss appointments in Tallaght Hospital.Posted 3 years ago #

and what is the reason for buses late/not turning up.it certainly aint dublin bus.its the society we live in unfortunately.far too many cars on the road, roads not built for the large volumes of traffic.dublin bus drivers do a fantastic job in very difficult circumstances.Posted 3 years ago #

14/14A/17/75 ARE AWFUL for time and should be coming quicker and more frequently!!!!Posted 3 years ago #

By right it shouldn't matter how many cars are on the road. it's all to do with the policing of the bus lanes and the amount of taxi's using them. we need a system like the U.K. if our public transport is to work effectively. but getting back to the topic. the best routes are going to be the shortest ones e.g. 53/53a from eden quay to the point theatre, whilst the longer ones 39,70,77and most cross city ones would be the worstPosted 3 years ago #

The 51b is actually the worst route in Dublin. As it goes through the one wayt system in Clondalkin Village, and onto the Naas Road via Monastery Road at the Red Cow Roundabout - all without the aid of any Bus Lanes, a typical journey from Clondalkin Village to City Centre can take anything from one houe to one and a half on a bad day.
the new 151 however, bypasses the Village and uses bus lanes all the wayinto town via long mile road to cork street and IFSC.Posted 2 years ago # -
Dublin Bus are calling the 151 route to Clondalkin a QBC. This is not true as there are no bus lanes through Crumlin, and the bus lanes are usually full of cars on the Long Mile Road because of lack of enforcement by the Guards.Posted 2 years ago #

I used to work in Crumlin and get the 210 from Clondalkin.
It was actually quicker literally walking home in the afternoons, despite my job being beside the 2nd stop from the terminus on Crumlin Road. It would often take 30-40 minutes for the bus to arrive from 2 stops down the line.

There is nothing worse than the 56a as I've mentioned here before.
Put simply, you're risking your job/doctor's appointment/hospital visit/dentist visit etc if you have to rely on it at ANY time of the day in any traffic in any weather.
I dare anyone to try it.

so who in you opinion is to blame for these worst routes??Posted 2 years ago #
-
traffic obviously.the amount of cars on the road is beyond a joke.vast majority only have 1 person in them.if there wasnt such a disaster of a traffic problem in this city then dublin bus services would be much better.on time and more frequent, doesnt take the brains of an archbishop to work that out.Posted 2 years ago #

for gods sake dont follow the uk for bus lanes, they are terrible, you might as well not have them, all and sundry use them and the police to be quite honest couldn,t give a toss the garda here do a great job,
as for the 54a cuttin sharp,
so would i what with the scum bags hanging around that kip, kiltipper, its a shame that a small minority spoil for the rest of you and tallaght is dodgy even in day time i say get in and get outPosted 2 years ago # -
my BE 120 route is terrible and needed a rerouting

the 220 is the worst route in Dublin and needs to be changePosted 2 years ago #

Ha are you kidding. The 145 is a joke. I can only get a 145 home and see countless numbers of 46a's go by before seeing a 145. But they too usually just drive by cos they are too full! they need to become more frequent and make sure that customers who can get a 46a dont take up a space of someone who has no choicePosted 1 year ago #
