Both of these routes I use reguarly to and from Ballyfermot. Both these routes service guinness brewery and kilmainham gaol. I have yet to be on one where some lout down the back isn't smoking a cigarette or something more exotic. I am ashamed when I see tourists look at each other in disgust. If pubs can be policed for smoking laws 2 years after the law change how come buses like these routes cant 2 decades later.

who is going to police and enforce the law.drivers are told not to leave the cab or confront idiots like these.drivers are under enough stress as it is without dealing with junkie muppets on their bus.its a difficult one and its all down to these louts having no respect for the bus,their fellow passengers and probably no respect for themselves.

The police of course.They are called to pubs clubs shops cinemas where people arew smoking. why not buses?

I have absolutely no problem with the drivers not leaving their cabs, they're not paid enough to confront scum like that. I was thinking of something like the security they have on the dart which is a great success. I mean the PA system reminds us of a E3,000 fine for smoking. A few plain clothes security for a few months would pay for itself.

what would one or two security do against the gangs that use these routes? no amount of money would be worth the hassle of this job. And how many would be needed to police all routes and buses. if there is a clampdown on some routes these people will move to others.

You should forward your complaint to the office of tobacco control. Lodge a complaint. Unless enought people kick up a fuss then nothing will change.

He could write into Metro.Writing letters to newspapers always solves problems ;-).Or he could be proactive and tell the gobs**tes to stop smoking.If put to them in the correct manner it can work.I've heard many a bus driver come on the PA and regale us using true dublin wit about the offending junkbags that they get so embarressed by everyone laughin at them that they get off at the next stop.Or knock them out,whatever.
