Whilst enjoying the suburban sprawl tour de forve that is the 84 to Newcastle, myself and my travelling companions mused upon which is DB's longest route on a terminus to terminus milage basis. I said either 84 or 65. Does anybody know?

AFAIK, the 65 Ballyknockan Division is the longest, at 25 miles. The previous record-holder was also the 65, on its very-infrequent-service Donard division, at about 30 miles. (Not sure if re-routing via Rathmines and Rathgar made the trip longer or shorter?)

The 33 and 84 seem to be in a tie for second place, since Balbriggan and Newcastle are about 22 miles from the city centre...don't know how the running via Greystones on the south side and Lusk, Rush and Skerries on the north side affects the total mileage...but those are the three kings there, at least out of buses that are not cross-city...

Another contender is the 04.50 departure Monday - Saturday on route 33 from Balbriggan to City Centre, this bus also runs via Donabate.

    Probably about 16 miles max...

Never understood why the 33 via Donabate (also via Portrane in the past). They have riders from north of Donabate? I understood this to have originally been a service to/from the hospital in Portrane for people from Lusk, Rush, Skerries, Balbriggan, but with it cut back to Donabate (and since Donabate is accessible by rail), I remain confused as to the purpose. (Why don't they build a road bridge between Portrane and Lusk anyway, and send the 33B to Rush from there...? Hmm, that sounds like a project that NIMBYs would oppose...)

That's an old CIE trick...like the unreported 66 via the IMP in Barnhall and the precursor to the 66B being mixed in with the "To or from Leixlip only" journeys that would operate to either Louisa Bridge or the IMP whenever they felt like it...
