The 1 Euro Fare Question!

    Hi Guys,
Here is a good question that i hope you can answer.
This moring i got on to the 236 and the Bus Driver Charged me 1 Euro for the same trip I took last year which was 90c.
I complained and He told me that was what He was told to charge people.
I said ok , ill check this myself, so i checked the Timetable for my self and its says that the Flat Fare is 95c regardless of the Distance traveled, so the Driver is incorrect!!
You guys agree with that?? Here is the link to the 236 timetable .http://www.dublinbus.ie/your_journey/viewer.asp?route=236

But i have noticed that some drivers are chargeing 1 Euro for fares that cost 90c before had, I thought it was simple all fare up by 5c and that was it . Have i missed something??
    Please enlighten me on this.
    Thanks Peter

You’re giving DB even more leeway than they deserve. The timetable says 90 cent, not 95.

Sounds like you got a bad apple among the drivers. You ought to get on the bus driver union about this fellow, and only if the union fails you do you talk to the supervisor.

The 90cent fare is now gone up to 95 cent, the driver just could,nt be bothered to ring out a 5 cent change ticket

Well it makes my blood boil and i am not alone. He was chargeing all the other passengers as well.
When i poped out the timetable that i printed off and showed him where on the bottom is said 95 regardless of the distance travelled he simply said take the ticket and call the bud depot manager. To which I will do.
But if there is any one else here who has the same issue with them please call the phisboro depot and ask to speak with the Manager as I will do. Ill keep the post updated.

I rather suspect Sting has just been stung....But not by the Busdriver...
All Busdrivers recieved a memo-sheet with All of the revised fares listed alongside the old ones.
As is depressingly usual in these cases there are some anomalies and I suspect this is one.
I am fairly sure that the current crop of Flat-Fare routes have had their fares increased to ¤1 ON THE MEMO.
This operational document has some other revelations such as the Centre City Shoppers Fare having increased by 10c to 60c whilst the company website lists NO increase at all.
I should imagine Sting will if possible offer the unfortunate Busdriver profuse apologies on the morrow, whilst heaping all manner of scorn and oprobrium upon the most senior Manager he/she can get on the other end of their phone.

Alek’s word is good in my book. Definitely give management the hell they think they’re inflicting on the poor riding public...

Thanks Alex , and i understand what your saying. In fact Ive given up on the Driver as all he does is grunt like a caveman and points to the ticket machine when i argue with what the timetable says.
So Ive called the Depot Manager named Paddy, and asked if he could explain it , he couldnt at the time but said he would look in to it. Havnt heard back from him but ill give him a call today and see what he says.
All i want is an answer as to why they are chargeing 1 euro when the flat fare is 95c as it states on the timetable.
Also , Im not alone , in fact i saw 3 other people argue with the driver over the fare but again , he just points to the Ticket Machine. Which just confirms my theory that even blondes have a chance at driveing buses for Dublin Bus.
Is there anything else i can do, some offical place to complain about this?
    Thanks for your Help.

OK Sting...The situation is as I suspected.
The New Fares Notice as issued to Drivers has a specific section relating to FLAT FARE ROUTES-201,202,236,237 & 238.
    Adult Old Fare = 90c New 2006 = ¤1.00
    Child Old Fare=60c New 2006=65c.
The Memo Notice is a model of clarity and it must be said takes legal precedence over any items on the Company Website.
That being said, both You as a customer and the unfortunate Driver as an employee have been placed in equally invidious positions which should Never have happened.
I would suggest an approach to the Office of The Director of Consumer Affairs who,in the past, has been very strident concerning companies complying with their own advertising.
However I suspect the old "Get-Out" clause of E&OE will apply to this little mess also....?

By the way the depot manager for Phibsboro is Declan Murray, and as for the shopper,s fare I find the best rule thumb is the cheapest schoolchild fare i.e 50 cent

I would agree with Kevin except that what is the EASIEST rule of thumb is not necessarily the BEST.
Either there IS a Shoppers Fare or there is NOT.
If Drivers constantly go on-the-fly and select the least troublesome option then those of their colleagues who HAVE bothered to read the Memo are exposed to public ridicule etc etc..and so on and so forth.
Whilst all this heat and light is being staged on the Bus Platform the atmosphere within 59 Upr O Connell St remains tranquil and serene.....sure its all going swell sez the PR lady..Twould be hard to make it up...!!!!

i can't believe what dublin bus is actually doing here, i agree don't take it out on the poor bus driver as they are only doing there jobs, if the correct fare is 95c and dublin bus is charging ¤1 then this is in my opinion not an error on dublin bus behalf but actually fraud on dublin bus behalf as this error may have been unintentional but once its becomes intentional then its fraud,

    Hi ,
Well had a chat with Paddy at the Depot and he tells me that indeed the price is 1Euro and not 95 as the Website USE to say. ( They Have Changed it now)
But i thought that it was a 5Cent increase across board?? Why the 10c jump??

That,Mr Sting is all down to those wonderful people at the Dept of Transport.
The Minister approved an Average cash fare increase of 3.8%.
Now since most normal folks tend not to think in .8`s of a % the Dept then gets Dublin Bus to submit differing variations of fare adjustments to give this magic average.
Thus your 90c AND The Shoppers 50c both went up by 10c. while the Nitelink and Airlink cash fares stayed the same.....Swings and Roundabouts I guess.
However the real problem is with Senior Civil Servants whose idea of Bus Travel involves the Driver sittin out front with a rug over his/her thighs and a whip in hand....
