    Hi
got on the no37 on saturday afternoon, There was a gang of about 5-10 young fellas upstairs. everything was fine until we headed towards castleknock village and then it started, they were shouting whistling, screaming out. Sure to god the bus driver should of did something but he didnt, he just kept driving as if nothing was wrong. It was awful, there where disabled people on board at the time and they where frighten, but the driver did nothing Why????

When will the travelling public realise that under NO circumstances is a driver allowed out of his cab while on route, not to help with disabled people, mother,s with buggies, moron,s screaming and shouting, gobs**tes fighting. The driver is paid to drive the bus SAFELY from Ato B.End of story

The driver HAS a responsibility to his passengers and is in charge of the bus and does not however have to leave his cab to make an announcement or to call the gaurds.

you obviously do not drive a bus if you did you,d realise when you call for Garda assistance the answer you get from your controller is "what do you want the Guards for I,m not here to call the Guards for you ,use your mobile phone ".You see depending on the garage your from the controller,s are too busy organising their golf or their football outing,s

Thats for the drivers to take up with the company. no paying passenger should feel under threat due to the shortcomings of management. The driver is in charge of the bus and if he sees his passengers uncomfortabe or threatened he should stop the bus until the gaurds are called, flag down a passing garda or call on his mobile. The more drivers that do this the more attention it will bring on the disgraceful attitude of these controllers.

Well it would,nt be the first time a driver got out to these rascist morons I was called up to the managers office to represent a colleague (non-national)who had left his cab to confront one of these moron,s .The driver was told if he did it again he would be facing suspension .In other word,s he had to take this abuse and accept it.

No he does not have to take the abuse. He may have to listen to it but can complain to the company if it continues and they fail to act. He should NOT break procedure and leave his cab if this is against procedure as if he had been assaulted it would go into dispute if he was liable for leaving his cab or if the company were liable. Everybody is called names regardless of race religion colour. How many local lads have been called fat basters or big ears or four eyes? it just passes off. If the driver you represented had not have left his cab he would have had a case against the employer for neglecting thier duty to protect him. I would imagine the instruction to stay in the cab is to do just that. What is the point to having a protective screen if you get out of the cab?

Log if you felt threatened why did you not ring the guards yourself???
Do you think if a bus driver makes an announcement over the PA that these thugs would just happily hop of the bus and walk?? chances are they would have caused damage to the vehicle or assaulted other passengers on the bus, As a bus driver myself I can tell you that Ive often felt like dragging people of the bus and beating the crap outta them but Sometimes it's better not to interfere in whats going on behind you and just get to where your going as quickly as possible before things escalate. there is no easy solution to this problem, if you know one let me know and I will try it tomorrow.

To the original poster, i don't drive buses myself but how would you feel confronting this gang yourself? If that happenned in a shop or doctors surgery you'd wouldn't expect some teenage girl or an elderly GP to drag the kid in question out of the building? The driver's paid to drive the bus, if you feel threatened by another passenger try complaining to the driver or just get off - don't make his job any harder.
