Cqan anyone tell me have Dublin Bus cut back all their Nitelink services since mid august? I noticed there is no longer a 69N on a Thursday night, and I have fairly recent timetables showing that there was one operating before august. Cheers

Yes Dublin Bus have cut the Thursday nite-link service but I,m not too sure if it,s cut completely or just cut back to a 0030 and 0230 service

    Thanks Kevin

Tried to get the 0330 69N on friday and was told thay had changed the timetable to 0300. They seem to be doing a lot of messing with the service without giving any notice to customers

    Sadly Sean you are correct.
Its no secret that the Nitelinks have taken a pasting due to the availibility of Taxi`s AND the Luas standard late departure of 0040.
However the methodology of responding to these competitors has been decidedly iffy.
Nitelink has for some years now been slipping behind due to it`s concept being outdated and ill suited to modern Night Time commuting.
It is after all an Express Limited Stop service linking City and Suburbs in one direction only.
For at least four years now the City has merited a 24hr Standard Bus Service operating along all the main corridors at a basic hourly frequency in both directions.
A flat standard fare of ¤2 would be generally acceptable I feel as long as a reliable service level was provided.
The somewhat short-termist nature of Dublin Bus`es cutbacks on Nitelink services is underlined by the calls from the Taxi Federation for a Fuel Cost surcharge on All Taxi fares, something which could have allowed Dub Bus to at least make an effort at marketing or revamping it`s limping Nightship...? Any Thoughts from the blackness..?

Well I,m a bus driver and on occasion,s I,m on the first bus out of Ballymun and I,m suprised to see the amount of people it carries on the first journey 0610 ex Ballymun is full from Whitehall Garda station in to town I believe there is a need for an earlier starting bus service not a nite link

    Agree with U 100% Kev.
That`s my point in the first post.
Nitelink was for years the only show in town for Nocturnal Public Transport, however the entire scene has changed now and Dublin Bus have been slow to get ahead of the posse.
¤4 per head is way to dear if 4 people are travelling together for example.
Once the Nitelink numbers began to fall away Dublin Bus should have moved to redefine the Night Bus Service.
There are very few issues surrounding it`s introduction since the principle of 24hr Operation was conceded during the negotiation of the last Viability Plan wage deal.
As it stands any Dublin Bus staff recruited within the past 4 years are fully flexible under the terms of their contracts of employment and can be deployed on Night Services subject to agreement on wage rates and operational issues.
So what are we waiting for..another 10,000 Taxi plates ???
