rural bus service is a joke

the bus service from dingle to tralee is an absolute farse. every sunday night (and bank-holiday mondays) i have to travel back up from dingle to dublin, a long enough jouney without the added problem of the incapable Bus Eireann.

the latest train leaves Tralee at 17.05 yet the Dingle bus only reaches Tralee at 17.15. the alternative to driving the hour twice every weekend would be to get the earlier bus at 1300, which would leave 3 hours wasted in Tralee town. if i do so the entire day is ruined and spent traveling.

could you PLEASE not alter the timetable even slightly so that it would arrive on time for the last train??

could somebody in Bus Eireann please read and reply to this and explain why you wish to put us comuters at a huge inconvenience.
if this isnt taken into consideration then this web-site is meaningless waste of space.
    anyone agree???

Erm... what do you want love, sympathy? We're all in the same boat, no matter where in Ireland we try to travel, so this website is not a waste of space. It is a free space where we can air grevances and discuss transport-related issues. Have you tried complaining to Bus Éireann? I know it won't get you far, but at least you will be having a go in the right direction.

C'mon Jane, don't be giving us a hard time, get CIE to allow us to alter the timetables and we'll sit down for a year, hold public consulations, and come up with transport schedules that suit people better.

As it is, this site can only bring to light and discuss problems and solutions for our public transport system. Hopefully someone from buseireann has seen your problem, but if not, you can always write to bus eireann directly.

I hope you have better luck with the buses in Kerry in future.

no need to be so sarcastic and rude David.
    i agree totally with Jane.
you say this is a public forum so people can air thier grievances? what good is airing? have you seen ANY changes since this discussion board was introduced? was anything here taken into considerantion by those responsible? has our bus service become any more reliable or competant even? honestly, NO.

if this is about 'airing grievances' then LET jane air hers without jumping on her for doing so. she cant speak about the whole country as you say, only her own experiences which i agree are a disgrace.

rural bus services ARE a joke.
    Here here Jane!!!

My comments referred to the complaint about this website, not Jane's issues with Bus Éireann, with which I totally agree. I wanted to point out that the anger about the BusRage website was misplaced, and should have been directed at Bus Éireann, not a discussion page run voluntarily.

i dont think Jane was attacking this web-site as such, just frustrated (and rightly so) at her situation.
this web-site is all good and well, and i commend all those involved in its creation, but discussion doesnt always lead to change which is what is wanted.
if her anger is misplaced then so is all the other discussions posted here.
i must remind you that she said that she wanted those RESPONSIBLE to reply to her (ie Bus Eireann) and not the web-site. the fact that she got response from them shows that they do not look here to better their service. therefore in that respect it was a waste of her time to post a discussion at all, as no reply or solution of any kind was given.
forgive me if i came across rude or abrupt in any way before,
    Fiona

I do think that we are all frustrated with our public transport service, and that BusRage is a good way of venting that frustration. It would be good to have an ADVOCACY GROUP (mentioned before) to put our opinions to those who can do something about them. It would be great to include those people, like Jane, outside of Dublin who have to rely on CIÉ for their travel arrangements - I think a united and well-organised front would (eventually) put pressure on those in the various CIÉ agencies who ignore our feelings at the moment.

I would like to apologise to both Jane and Fiona if my comments were upsetting also.

    hi, jane here.
i know what youre all thinking, the bitch is back!

but id like to apologise also. Fiona was right in what she said, and thanks there for defending me there Fi!
it was in NO WAY my intention of attacking this web-site, saying IT was a waste of space. what i meant to say (and i wish now id phrased it better!) was that it was a waste of time posting all these discussions and talking about our problems if the relevant services did not reply or even take notice of what we are saying.
i also want to commend those involved in the setting-up and maintenance of this site, i sincerely did not intend on attacking your good work, and hope you understand what i MEANT to say now!

IM SORRY DAVID & ARMITAGE! am i forgiven???
    Jane
    ps - David, apology accepted!

Hi Jane I'm glad you got back to us, as I was feeling bad about my original comments - thanks for that.

However, perhaps it might be an idea to include a national section on this site, so users outside of Dublin can register their own comments? Something to think about maybe.

I think we all have a lot of anger that we could channel into a consumer group too... Something to consider too. Have a great weekend!

Hmm...and here I thought that such was the case, what with the "Bus Rage" logo resembling the CIE logo...? I'm pleased to hear Jane's tale of woe from out in Dingle, that is, pleased to hear from out there but not so pleased at her ordeal. More bureaucratic b****xing by the Fláthiúlí up in Baile Átha Cliath; the (supposedly connecting) bus arrives ten minutes after the train departs. (No offence, but it reminds me of a joke, which was in a Kerryman-joke book, where a passenger enters Tralee station asking when the next train to Dublin leaves, and the ticket agent replies "The next train to Dublin just left a minute ago"...)

(Maybe this is a good call to get the Tralee & Dingle railway rebuilt?)

All together now: "CIE are robbery, doo-dah, doo-dah..." ;-) (echoes of "Camptown Races" in the background)

  11. : IM SORRY DAVID & ARMITAGE! am i forgiven???

No apology neccessary, I know how frustrating it can be dealing with public transport all over the country. One purpose this site is supposed to serve is the letting off of a little steam, so don't worry.

As far as national bus and rail services go, I agree they're really bad, although thankfully I don't have to rely on them much. In any case, it would be good if CIE kept to their own timetables, at least then we'd know where we stood.

All this brings back memories of a really bad journey from Dublin to Ballybunion I attempted, oh god, the hassle!

Al, there was a dingle-tralee rail service 'back in the day' but its long gone. dont think theyde be too big on the idea of it again. i dont think wed need it if there was a adequate bus service as it was, but lets faceit thats not gonne happen in my or your life-time.

hardy-bloody-ha at kerryman joke... never heard that 1 before... (sarcasm in case yey dubs dont get that!)

    : Jane

No problem about the sarcasm...but the way CIE runs, I'd figure that the joke applied to their employees, no matter what bloody county they hail from (even County Union, in New Jersey, where I'm living right now, but hopefully, not much longer)
