This site is for bus watchers and bus users, but I think that any public transport topic is fair game. Here is one: I was on the Luas 2 Fridays ago at 11pm when some people got on at Balally and told the fare-checker they had no money and so had not bought tickets. The checker ticked them but allowed them to continue their journey. Why, then, should I have paid 1.60 if I could have as easilyridden for nothing? Shame on Connex. They are cowards and hypocrites.

Oh Dear Richard.....If your observation is correct then ConneX are gettin themselves into a whole heap of mess.
One of the prime reasons for the success of Luas is its "Quality" image.
This has allowed it to attract a range of users who would not in a million years use the bus for example.
However if ConneX are allowing themselves to fall into the "Go Ahead" mode then this information will spread like wildfire amongst the chattering classes.
The end result will be a Luas service, particularly after dark, which will be the sole preserve of the panhandler, freeloader and the anti-social.
Public Transport appears to attract these git`s like a rotting carcass attracts bluebottles.
The same fellows would be loath to approach a Barman and cheerily request a round of drink whilst advising of their lack of funding...what does one suppose would be the response of the Innkeeper..?
Bus Atha Cliath continue to pay a high price for years of inaction on the skanger issue and it really should be a HIGH priority for Luas to avoid going down the same road/track.....
