Maybe this has been posted before?

"The future for transport workers is clearly shown by Aircoach. Bus drivers for the private bus company Aircoach have to work 12 hour shifts, they can only take a toilet break if they are ahead of schedule and they must pay for all damages to the bus they drive! "

Yeah that,s the future management and some transport minister,s would like to see, but it,s up to the ordinary driver to stand up to these people and fight back it,s the only way, look at the French worker,s if they dont like something they strike and their minister,s are scared stiff of them.

The thing that miffs me about Aircoach is that DB had a very similar route, which it called the "hotels" route in the late 80s/early 90s. It was little used because most of the hotels concerned attracted only the expense-account brigade who took taxis. If DB had marketed it a little diffferently instead of scrapping it, it might well have made Aircoach unnecessary. Regarding working conditions at Aircoach, are the drivers unionised, or are Aircoach like Ryanair, a shower of anti-union b******s?

I dont know if it`s just me or if there is really something going on,but in the recent past I have noticed Aircoach drivers taking unnecessary personal risks and at the same time placing their customers at risk also.
I`m talking about the increasingly common practice of the AC driver having to leave the cab and open the OFFSIDE luggage locker door to retrieve baggage.
Today I witnessed an AC driver come SO close to getting hit by passing traffic in Donnybrook Village as he brought two passengers around with him to the OFFSIDE of his coach directly into the traffic flow.
This is Insane stuff and will without doubt lead to a serious accident.
In the present driving climate a great number of drivers simply are NOT in observational mode as they Text,Talk or are otherwise engaged while they travel (At great speed) along the highway.
Im surprise that First Group have not moved to end this lunacy as if there is a serious accident involving a staff member put at risk by corporately condoned unsafe working practices the company Management may find themselves PERSONALLY in the dock.
In the meantime Aircoach Drivers.....Watch yer Asses...!!!!

The answer to the question "are the drivers unionised, or are Aircoach like Ryanair, a shower of anti-union b******s?", is yes, both! About half of the drivers on the main Dublin city - Dublin airport route are SIPTU members, but the company is refusing to recognise the union or to negotiate sensibly, even though First Group, the owners, recognise unions in Britain and even in the US.
There is a Labour Court hearing on 11 October.

Good point well made. The Labour Court is only one avenue. Ultimately everything depends on the staying power of the members ay Aircoach - which, so far, has been magnificent.

I see where S.I.P.T.U. have pulled out of the new progress talk,s until they get assurances about job,s .they did that last time ,stayed out for a week and went straight back in.I think it,s time all our union,s bared their teeth they,ve been in bed with with continuous government,s for so long they seem to have forgotten who they represent. You can throw connex in there as well. They treat thier staff like s**te and have major safety issues. SIPTU is on to them big time and the papers are haunting them though they deny any of thier workers claims. The RPA should launch a major investigation into whats going on up there as they dont know the half of it as dont the public.

S.I.P.T.U. might "be on to them big time" but what are they doing about it. there are still luas trams running out there if SIPTU had any bottle they would stop them NOW. Will they? NO . Why because SIPTU negotiated a five year NO STRIKE clause with Connex and when the time comes and the money is being handed out SIPTU will be back in with another partnership deal .when our wages go up so do our subscription,s

Well it,s now 12/10/05 what was the outcome of the labour court hearing or do we play this down in case workers suddenly realise the Labour court is no friend of the ordinary worker

Kevin, you've hit no nerve, I just don't haunt the Busrage boards. Busy taking on the bosses, see. The 12/10/2005 hearing has been postponed because of developments - a decision reached by SIPTU reps at Aircoach. The nature of those developments is not yet public, but you can go and ask some Aircoach drivers, if you like. Our members have been fully briefed on them. As to partnership, the special delegate conference representing SIPTU's paying members are making their decision on Monday. Not me. Not Jack O'Connor. The paying members.

Maybe if you give up all your normal working conditions and refuse any overtime payment,s or day,s off , and start working 16/18 hours a day for about 7euro an hour ,then you might put DB out of action
