The painful 17A
(37 posts)-
riding the 17A is painful, with ex-Donnybrook AD's and only rarely a wheel-chair accessable bus, at Killbarrack to bus is full,
they should at least have a new section to the route 17B or 17X, to go to Beaumont Hospital, most passengers are going towards Northside or Beaumont anyway!!!
and the timetable is a joke, on numerous occarsions i've waited over 50 minutes for one, with a fair few Out of Service buses passing. It should be a more frequent route.
get rid of the single decks on the 17A, put them on the 42B or something like that.

They should put these rattleboxes on the 102 or in a field because just 2 weeks a go I waited 4 a 17a for 35 minutes on the ballymun road. Most people get this bus to DCU.My friend and I were waiting on a 17A with about 35 students who had gone to an open day in DCU.When the rattlebox of an AD appears people push and shove in anyway people are being pushed on and off the bus which was not even parked in the bus lane and the bus driver became impatient and shut the doors upon my friend.Luckily we pulled her out of the doors. They should get AV's on this bus and reverse the 103 have this bus go via beaumount, northside, oscar traynor, santry, ballymun, dcu and onto omni park.

i totally agree, send them to Louth commercials, or Burn them the single decks are useless, on such highly used route we at least deserve a bit of comfort, in total i've seen AV's on it but only been on one Once. it's way better than the rattling bone-shaking AD's. Especcially AD68..

Well, look on the bright side; if they were to privatise, you'd end up with old people's joints due to the shaking of the buses a private outfit would be running...
There are such things as transportation lobbies, aren't they? If there isn't one readily available to join, organise one. Then you'd be seeing wonderful things like AW-class on the 17A...might even get an extension to Howth if you lobby hard enough...Posted 3 years ago # -
i'd like to see something done to the 17A, we don't even need an extension just better services, they tried an AW a while back, didn;t work out, we pay our fare like anybody else, people on the 46A get AV's, we pay our fare but all we get is measly AD's, What ever happened to "Dublin Bus Equalities"

The governing are reneging on their promise of fund,s under the N.D.P. so dont hold your breadth waiting for new buses on the 17aPosted 3 years ago #

I heard about that. The government needs to be reminded that NDP stands for "National Development Plan", not "National Decay Plan"

what do db do about it
[posted by: stefan leech]Posted 3 years ago # -
i've talked to DB about it, in November, they said the route would be talked about, aswell a few features on the Northside People giving out about it.
and NDP plan my arse, the KC did a better job than the AD Class any day

give it to amc instead of giving out to db

Ive been travelling on the 17A route now for the last 12 years, four times a day every day. Since my first trip on this route noting has changed. Ive been on every type of bus on this route AW DT RA RV AV AD KD KC & even an DF! The AD,s that are marked on this route are 90% ex Donnybrook but one or 2 are ex Airlinks. Extra space oppisite the center doors is the only difference but makes all the difference! I agree the KC,s done the job a lot better but since this route moved to Harristown (for the worst i think) AD,s are the main type of bus marked in on this route! AD,s should be only used lets say after 7pm for this route while RH/RA/RV been the main buses during peak. Also since the move to Harristown the timetable has been further cut with talks of the last bus each way departing at 23:10.... watch this space.... PS give Summerhill back the rt 17A & send them AD,s back to f**king Donnybrook! lol

yes the luggadge racks are a waste. put seats in them, but yet more property for little basterds to destroy. the AW are a good idea but yet again a novelty, more people will use it. a few weeks ago an AW operated it...Posted 3 years ago #

Yea it was AW6 and i was on it. It operated during evening peak departing Finglas at 17:00. Have to say a good few people on it b4 it got to Ballier. The only problem with the aw was at the last stop (Finglas) where the bus does a right and terminates, the aw cant do this so it takes a left at the mini roundabout and terminates at the big church.
