Well, I'm still waiting for this current crisis to come to a head. Mary O'Rourke's notoriety has now become legendary.

Route 86 nearly 86'd (only three trips per week-day now)
(2 posts)-
Just looked at the "new" DB web site, which announced a "revised" timetable for the 86 bus, which has suffered several cuts in service. Now, whenever DB puts "revised" up in the timetable, that usually means cut to shreds, and I wasn't wrong—the 86 is now down to one northbound trip and two southbound trips per week-day (no weekends). Is Upper Kilmacud Road no longer a viable bus route...? Does everyone who uses a bus in that area walk up to Lower Kilmacud Road to catch the 11...? What about Brewery Road, Foxrock Road and Cornelscourt Hill Road? (I know the 63 also serves some of those areas, but the 86 used to be a better-used bus route in those areas.)Posted 6 years ago #

Alan, the 86 is really now only used by schoolkids and a few regulars. Most people in the Upper Kilmacud area would indeed take the 11 (or the 116 if they live at the Stillorgan end). As far as Brewery Road, Foxrock Road and Cornelscourt Hill Road are concerned, who in their right minds would take a bus that eventually ends up in the traffic of Ranelagh when they have an effective QBC beside them? The 46D, 118, 117, 63 and 46A are far faster. Hence it was only to be expected that this would happen. There is no point in leaving a bus operating if no-one is using it and for years that has been the case with the 86.
