Yeah its fantastic its about time the whole of Mulhuddart needed a better service,will leave the car at home from now on- it just goes to show a little complaining to DB can go a long way so if you want a route change keep at em.Posted 3 years ago #

It,s not a case of complaining to DB this proposal came from DB nearly a year ago and the dept of transport held it up until now. Maybe you should ask your local politicans why they never raised the question in the dail.Posted 3 years ago #

Whatever the case, it bodes well for a DB recovery. Perhaps a sign that Cullen and the rest of the Kildare Street Club are not going through with the privatisation scheme in earnest...? How much "privatisation" is in France and Germany with local bus service anyhow? No need to follow John Bull's flawed example, I think...

Dennis is on the Money.
The attitude of the Department of Transport hardened considerably after the departure of Mary O Rourke and it`s fair to say it began to act in a manner which was/is inspired by Political ideology rather than Best Practice in Public Transport provision.
However as Al notes there has been a slight re-alignment of the deck chairs in Kildare St.
One of the most virulent of its senior officials has been moved to pastures greener and his replacement is widely regarded as being made of far more commonsense stuff.
The fact that Ivor Callelly actually has an INTEREST in public transport (even if his Minister is somewhat wayward) is also a help.
There is actually some hope now that progress may be possible on a number of fronts.
If anybody is interested in what was possible then see the Forum on Public Transport Report,commissioned by Mrs O Rourke but binned in a spectacular manner by Seamus Og.
With a bit of luck Dublin Bus may actually be allowed to get stuck in and attempt to come to terms with the results of our somewhat skewed urban planning scenario.
However the Dept needs to step back from the Brennan era of attempting to Micro-Manage a public service about which it knows sod all.
Take for example the Patricks Day Parade and the Saturday Skyfest.
Every single Dublin Bus vehicle SHOULD be utilized on BOTH days/nights to operate flat-fare (Or FREE) shuttles to and from the events.
The reality is that well over 50% of the fleet will be safely held in the Garages as any attempt to operate such a service would require seperate Departmental sanction etc etc .....
In the meantime total and complete chaos will reign as the poorly augmented early 20th century SAT/SUN service attempts to cope with the numbers which a modern 21st Century FREE event can attract.
The doors of Kildare St will be firmly locked and bolted on both days with many of the Decision Makers "gone home for the weekend" so the situation wont even be raising a ripple.....

thanks be to jesus! I've been on the new route 38a twice in recent days and it is sooooo much handier. Now if we could only get a helicopter bus to fly over the phibsboro traffic jams we'd be laughing
