Route 27
(23 posts)-
In My Opinion I Think That The 27 Could Do With An Overhaul.Today I Waited For 20 Minutes On A Bus That Is Meant To Be Every 7 Minutes And It Isnt The First Time It Has Happened Either.Once On The Bus, It Has To Go On The 15 Minute Tour Of Coolock.
This Bus Is Also The Main Bus On The Malahide Road But Is Usually Full By Marino. What They Should Do Is Have The 27 As Normal Untill It Gets To The Glin Road/Greencatle Road Junction And Have The 27 Operate Via Greencastle Road To Town And Have A New 27C Operate Via The Old Route 27.The Timetable Could Have A 27C Operating Every Second/Third Bus Like The 13/A.Posted 3 years ago # -
Hi
Agree the the tour of Coolock is a waste. Have missed the 27 at Darndale and walked to UCI waited 5 minutes and got on the same bus I missed 10 minutes earlier.
What about having the present 27 Routing as a non peak hour service. If it was replaced completely the 101 would have to be reinstated to give Coolock its local service back.
Rush Hour Only 6 - 9am
4 - 7pm
27 City - Oscar Traynor - Northside - Glin Rd -Priorwood (could be extended to Airport Via N32 at a later Date)
27A City same routing as current 27N but terminate at Clare Hall instead of going Blunden Drive - Edenmore
27B - Remains the same
27C - Follows old 42C Routing. City - Malahide Rd - Darndale - Priorswood
42A/B extended to Clare Hall. City - Edenmore - Blunden Drive - Clare Hall
27X Malahide Road only, terminating at the future Grange/Clare Hall DART Station
I know that the above ideas have been tried before the Cityswift. concept was developed (old 27,27A,42C and 101 routes were 'merged' to form current 27 routing).
But there has to be a way to speed up the service and avoid bunching at Northside
Frequency on a single corridor would suffer (need more buses) but financially it would be ok.
If I recall the old 27A/42C were the busiest routes on the Malahide Road before the merger.

Hey, what happened to the notion of extending south-side bus routes that are short onto north-side bus routes, such as when the 134 was merged with route 83? That would help eliminate a number of redundant alpha-suffixes, no? Might be confusing in the beginning perhaps, but who knows, it might be worth it. Let's see...
- Weren't they going to merge the 27B with the 79 at one time? They could still do that, using the route number 79.
- They could merge the 27 with the 15A, certainly; use the number 27, and on the north side, run the 27 to Priorswood via Greencastle Road/Glin Road.
- Merge route 7 with the former route 42C to Darndale/Priorswood (and use the number 7 for the route)...nothing more versatile than a bus that can get you from Darndale to Dun Laoghaire, right?
- Merge route 150 with the former route 27A (using the route number 150 of course), operating via Oscar Traynor Road and Bunratty Road, itself either operating to Priorswood after passing NSC or operating to Beaumont Hospital as in the past
- As for Clare Hall, that should be the domain of the existing route 127, but increase service to the levels of the present 27, and extend to Malahide via Drumnigh Road, thus eliminating the alternate 42 service to Seamount.
I'm sure that a lot of drivers would hate the idea for the route 7 that I outlined...but the crusade against Brennan and his consultants should have been a far tougher one, and there should have been an effort to get the passengers on the side of the drivers...

Waited Another 20 Minutes Today On The "Cityswift" 27.With Relation To Steves Suggestion If The 27 Would Be Extended To The Airport It Would Nearly Be Full By The Time It Got To Priorswood.Maybe If They Extended The 42A/B To Priorswood, The 27 To Clare Hall Not Via Northside And The 27C To Blunden Drive Via Northside & Priorswood Maybe That Would Be Better. But Something Needs To Be Done & Quick!!!Posted 3 years ago #

My suggestions were peak hours only, off peak there wouldn't be enough buses to profitably provide the frequency needed so current setup would have to continue.
It was also based on the fact that Coolock, Darndale/Priorswood, Clare Hall/Malahide Road need to have fast connections to the city. Each has a big enough population to warrant their own service during peak hours.
The southside mergers would not impact the current malaise on the 27. Clare Hall commuters would still have to visit Darndale, Clonshaugh, Northside, Greencastle etc on their way to the city.
The Airport suggestion was just added as an afterthought to give a direct link instead of (43 to Swords -41 to airport ) or (17A to N1 - 41 to airport). But Daz is correct it wouldn't help.

The 27 is usually a great service during peak hours, it only seems to fall down outside the hours of 9-4 and 8pm onwards. Although the amount of people that stumble onto the 27X, thinking its a regular 27! Here's my solution! ---

42C Darndale - Nassau St.
27B Northside S.C to City Centre.
29A Clare Hall - City Centre.
20B Castletimon - Baggot St.

27B Northside S.C to City Centre
Perhaps you mean 27A? The 27B is already the Harristown to City Centre bus, via Castletimon, Kilmore, et al...and what with DB still being alpha-suffix-happy, there is a better chance of that route returning...
(Besides, it would perhaps be better to extend the 20B via Kilmore Road, Barryscourt Road and Glin Road to Priorswood or some such routing. And get rid of that 20B alpha suffix and bring back the 20—"20B" was redundant from its inception, and I never understood why CIE brought it about.)Posted 3 years ago # -
people tend to avoid the 20B as the route is longer and encounters more traffic favouring 27B instead. If it were extended to darndale people would still opt for 27 or 42 even if they had to walk to get it. Once the 27/27B reaches Malahide its a straight and almost continuous corridor to city. 20B gets stuck at Beaumont road/Collins ave and collins ave/Malahide Rd junctions.

I Think That The 42A Or 42B Or Both Should Be Extended To Priorswood With The Other Extended To Clare Hall. The 27B Should Only Operate As Far As The M1 Flyover At Coolock Because It Picks No One Up After That. Then Have Route 101 Operate From Harristown Via Route 27B To Coolock Via Beaumount Hospital, Northside, Priorswood And Clare Hall To The Yet To Be Built Grange Road Dart Station. This Would Also Mean That Route 27B Would,nt Have To Go Via Beaumount Hospital.Or Else Maybe Instead Of This Run The 101 As I Said From Beaumount And Extend The 20B Or 51A To Harristown.
As For The 27 The Best Solution Is For This Bus Not To Operate Via Northside SC Or Priorswood And The 27C To Become More Frequent And Operate Via Priorswood And Northside.

Also Whats The Story On The 42 And 43 These Buses Are Not Very Frequent And Then Come Together Half Full.My Friend Comes Into School Very Early Every Morning Because The 08:20 Departure On The 43 Doesnt Exist, Its A Disgrace.
The Howth Road Is Even Worse You Wait 15 Minutes 4 A Bus AQnd Then 3 Come Together Whats The Story With That ?Clontarf Garage Should Get The Finger Out?Who's With Me
[posted by: Daz]Posted 3 years ago # -
Its not Clontarfs garages fault! Buses come in 2s and 3s on the Howth road because the bus lane ends in Fairview & traffic at the best of times can be a nightmare on this road! If the corpo got the finger out and started sorting out roads (more buslanes) wede be grand! ..... Now what excatly are we payin tax for????

Today At 15:10 At The UCI On The Malahide Road When Waiting Fior The 43 I Spotted This:
At 15:15, 2 27's To Clare Hall Half Empty
At 15:16, Another 27 To Clare Hall Half Empty
At 15:18 A Half Full 42 To Town
At 15:21 1 27 (With 3 Passengers On It)A 27 Half Full And Another 42 To Town With Only A Handful Of Passengers On It!!!

Well, 3 in the afternoon isn't exactly rush-hours. Gotta wait two more hours before you see commuters.

Bulls**t. 3pm is school time and buses are equally as full then as they are at 5pm. Some people live on a different planet. Ask any posters if they know of a route that is not filled with kids at this time.

I Wasn't Talkin About The Lack Of Passengers I Was Talking About "Whats The Point In Running 5 Buses In The Same Direction In A 6 Minute Period
[posted by: Daz]Posted 3 years ago # -
If they gave the 53 an extra bus and the 51A an extra bus- taking two buses off the 27 ["Coolock Flyer-sorry couldn't resist! :-) ]; it would seem to make more sense?

Nice language. That unsure of your point, are you?
3pm is school time and buses are equally as full then as they are at 5pm
Bulls**t. School kids walk, are driven, or take the school bus. By no means do they take the public bus en-masse like commuters do—never have and never will.Posted 3 years ago # -
Bulls**t. Try a bit of research and throw in the luas for good measure. As with your post on lack of buses to Beaumont hospital you spoke first without checking your facts. And as you were proven wrong you ignored the correct post. There are 1000's of kids in this city who do not have the luxury of a car and can not afford the school bus. There are also routes like 78a, 39, 10, 11, 16, 41, 33,25a, 66 that are full all day regardless of time. Get al life AL and come into the real world of people who are PAID to research this and other transport issues. If you require PHOTOS of dangerously overloaded buses particularly single deckers at peak scholl times I am sure they can be made readily available. These are safety issues and proof that more school buses are needed as some local school buses with 52 seats carry up to 100 children at a time. The use of cars is on the demise due to traffic. I am always sure of my points as opinions are ok if they are stated as same and not as fact. If you stand at key points and junctions researching these issues as I do then you can contradict them. If not then you will have to accept that your opinions are incorrect and misleading as many people who have complained to DB as they cannnot board buses due to volume of school kids will tell you.

at least they should put more buses on the route, Dublin Bus have over 1000 buses one or two more on the 27 and 17A wouldn't hurt, would it

Get al life AL
Waah, waah, wahh...unprovable anecdotes on your end, and you support them with immature language. You're the one who needs to get a life, A2000, because you're a pathetic internet troll coward who only does this on the WWW because you know you won't reap the same consequences as doing it in person.Posted 3 years ago # -
then reroute it

Al gets it wrong again and throws his toys out of the pram. another of ur unsubstanciated comments that i cant prove what i say. The life I have is based on facts and figures and NOT opinons that I want people to believe as facts. i have a position of responsibility which I take seriously and if you had a single ounce of cop on u would know where to find them. If get a life is immature language to u then u have led a very sheltered life. Accept that u are wrong and try to be graceful about it. ur imitation of a baby is a very good self portrait and gives me a better(or worse) picture of u as a person. as for doing this by WWW., there are some people I would not like to meet in this life and you are one of them. Sticks and stones etc. Name calling is a vile trait in any supposed grown up. I say it again AL, get a life.
