That's one of the things that happens when you do away with conductors, Al...or is that Myles? or Gary? or whatever your handle is lately. Maybe you'll have an SUV when you grow up and don't have to worry about such issues...?

Yes im back Wooo. What do you think the driver should of done?Posted 3 years ago #

Like it or not, it is a driver's responsibility to ensure that all passengers are safe. If illegal substances are being consumed, the driver is obliged to address the situation appropriately. i.e. call the guardians of the peace.

In Daz's case the scumbag was on the stairs because he knew the driver wouldnt be able to see him there. So the first the driver knew of him smoking and drinking was when he saw him getting off.At this point it is out of the drivers control, plus the problem has gone away, because he is off the bus now.
Bus drivers are there to get you from A to B,it isn't,Mr Angry, their responsibility to ensure all passengers are safe(apart from the driving end of things).
Why cant Joe soap on the bus ever call the Gard's themselves.Does the driver have to do everything??? People on buses have to stand up to these scumbags coz most of the time the driver isn't aware of the situation, because these people know where they can and cant be seen by the driver/cameraPosted 3 years ago # -
Daz if you were asked by the bus driver to pin point who ever was smoking or drinking on the bus , would you ???. because only when a passenger directly points out a passenger can action be taken. and remember when the guards are called it wont be the driver who goes as witness it will be the passenger.
Now to Mr. Angry, i would like you to know that since the smoking ban came into place , it is the drivers place of work that is also affected, so how would you feel if the bus stopped in the middle of the road and the driver gout out becase his place of work is being poluted. A bus driver can be in the same bus for up to six hours where as the passenger at longest would be in the bus for little over an hourPosted 3 years ago # -
I Would Of Pointed Him Out.
[posted by: Daz]Posted 3 years ago # -
You would not have pointed him out.Whenever i smell smoke on my bus i try to do something about it(i have thrown many a person off for smoking),but its very hard for a driver to see who is smoking, also we are not allowed out of our cabs cause if we do get out and something happens Dublin Bus will not back us up cause we we got out of our cab.
Why should we risk our jobs and our lives.

Slightly off topic but before Christmas I was on the 17:09 15C service from College Street. I got on the bus at Nassau Street and, as the bus was crowded, I went upstairs at sat right at the very back. There was a drunken man two seats in front of me shouting abuse at a foreign couple calling them everything under the sun and he was also abusing other passengers arond them calling them all names under the sun. A man got off the bus just as the bus turned onto Kildare Street and at the Kildare Street stop (at the Stephens Green end of Kildare Street) two policemen came up and escorted the drunken scumbag off the bus. Only for the other mans bravery for actually calling the police and dealing with the situation we could have witnessed something alot worse....

"Bus drivers are there to get you from A to B,it isn't,Mr Angry, their responsibility to ensure all passengers are safe(apart from the driving end of things)."
Certainly, many bus drivers will take that 'couldn't-care-less' attitude. At the end of the day though, the driver is responsible for his/her bus AND the safety of those on board. The most stupid thing a driver can possibly do is to leave the cab area to deal with the situation. I've had experience of working nitelink routes and on more than one occasion, pulled up outside the nearest Garda Station for assistance. The 'turn a blind eye' approach of many of my colleagues is extremely dangerous and no doubt will one day, result in serious injury or worse.
I must have a good sense of smell or something, because I can normally spot within seconds if there's a passenger smoking upstairs. My personal policy is to remove the smoker from the bus. I don't bother telling them to put the cigarette (or whatever they happen to be smoking) out - I just switch the engine off, and refuse to drive any further until the offender has got off the bus.

I don't have 'that', "couldnt care less attitude" you refer to. Maybe you didnt understand or maybe i didnt explain properly.Point i was trying to get at is that a bit of help from the public on the buses wouldnt go a-miss. Your dead right...the switching off the engine routine is very effective. I guess your a non- smoker. Could explain your ability to smell smoke from upstairsPosted 3 years ago #

bosses in dublin bus are trying but not hard enough only.. way strick ..bring city to a halt
healt is our wealth stand up to scum bagsPosted 3 years ago # -
smoking on buses shouldnt happen and I dont think it happens to often. Why dont u worry about more important stuff. Like no timetables at busstops or the terrible road conditions in some areas, or even that thy wont give change back.Posted 3 years ago #
-
So DB have to fix the roads aswell now do they? While your collecting your timetable info in HQ you can also collect your change......See you do get change back.Just requires a little effort on your part.
The exact fare/no change system is in place for a very good reason....driver safety....because of scumbags robbing drivers when they used to handle money a few years back.So you have Dublin scumbags to blame for having to collect your change in HQPosted 3 years ago # -
why doesnt martin cullen get 0725 route 220 from ladyswell to cappagh school to show why it happens
