A Summerhill bus driver had been left seriously injured when he was attacked after he tried to evict a smoking passenger! Amazingly the driver had his protective shield fully up but the passenger climbed through the dashboard! The incedent happened on the route 13 last week in Ballymun. Now ringsend have leant AV8 to Summerhill because this bus has a few undercover cameras, AV8 will be marked in on the 13-13A group over the next few weeks & will have undercover db & gardai on board. Summerhill route 13A/C will now not be serving Coultry due to heavy stoning of buses!

This is indeed an old problem in bad neighbourhoods, going back decades. AFAIAC, service to those areas should be permanently discontinued—these people are absolutely not entitled to having a bus come to them so they can simply destroy it. Either that or give the Guards some AK-47s and bullet-proof armour to keep the scummers at bay...

Although I am fully supportive of violent reaction (and public humiliation e.g. public whipping like in Singapore - remember the American kid who vandalised a car?!!), these scum are probably in the minority and so it is not really fair to remove a service from those who bring no harm to Dublin Bus drivers or property.
It's a pity that the good people of Ballymun aren't revolting against these scum.Posted 4 years ago # -
Hate to tell you this al but buses are stoned in what you might call good neighbourhoods as well. Just because buses are stoned in Ballymun does not mean that outsiders are not responsible. Its a pity that the driver put his job before his safety. If there is a smoker on the bus call the guards or leave them to it. As a lot of drivers smoke in thier cabs at termini or en route let he who is without sin cast the first stone....

I dont know why dubli bus scrapped the kc & kd,s, these buses would of coming in great for the above routes!

well li look at the state of the current rvs on the 13-13A, I think db scrapped the kd & kc busses way too early. Dont get me wrong li ive nothing against Ballymun (my gf lives there btw!) but a small number of people are just wrecking it for every 1! Where as if u introduced the KD,s back in to the flleet jus leave them on the 13-13A all day!

Sadly the KD and KC are no longer with us to fulfill this socially nedessary role in area`s of high deprivation etc etc.
However there is an alternative which could work and which many of us would have seen on TV News reports from places such as the Republic of South Africa and Zimbabwe and Nigeria,in fact many of the African countries.
This is the rather simple expedient of a Large Truck with high creels surrounding the body into which can be loaded a very efficient capacity crowd indeed.
Having the passengers seperated in their own area seperate from the driver would appear to be a sensible approach in the case of the 13/13A situation.
The route would of course have to be a flat fare and collected before boarding.
Another advantage is that the Passenger area would be a low maintenance facility with only a power hose required to clean the detritious from the slatted floor and bench seating.
The major advantage for the driver is his/her total segregation from the customers who would be expected to accept full personal responsibility for their own safety.
Perhaps one of the private sector compaines such as AMC might have an interest in such a basic level package for such questionable areas..?Posted 3 years ago #
