Why can't Dublin Bus go through the Phoenix Park.
(6 posts)-
By going through the park, buses would be able to get into the city within 15mins from Castleknock. At the moment it takes 40-60mins. It is a straight road through the park with no traffic lights. By doing this it will encourage more people to use the bus and it will serve the 100,000 people who live in Castleknock and Blanch.

Bus Atha Cliath and its predecessor CIE`s Dublin City Services made several and regular requests for just such a dispensation and have been turned down at each application.
The Park Authorities are Very guarded with regard to the vehicular movement within the Park and would if possible prevent ALL such movements.Posted 4 years ago # -
They have wonderful logic don't they?
Thousands of private motorists using the park as a shortcut with one person per car = ALLOWED
Buses, with Euro II standard low emission engines, carrying lots of people and helping to reduce car usage = NOT ALLOWED
Official bodies being interested in promoting public transport usage - it's not even a pretense, it's a myth!

Ironic that they have that street named "Parkgate Street" but the entrance to the Páirc Fhionnuisce at that location literally has no gate. Been like that since I were a lad...and I don't recall anyone saying that there was an actual gate there either. At the Castleknock end, there's a quite antique gate which allows only one-lane travel.
The fact that there never was (and seemingly never will be) a bus service operating via the Park is an utter travesty. Time to end the travesty, eh? How about a real gate at Parkgate Street and allowing the public buses through for once. Sure would be a very hassle-free way to get to Blanchardstown, because the N3 is a headache and even secondary routes like Blackhorse Avenue are getting to not be so convenient...Posted 4 years ago # -
Theres no reason why they can't as the tourist buses go throough. It's a disgrace.

Each route has to have a special permit to be allowed in the park.
They have granted the permit for tour buses, but repeatedly refused to grant a permit to allow a service route (such as the 37 or 39) to go through the park.
