Independent article here. Brief quote below.

BUS commuters in the greater Dublin area are reaching their destinations up to 42pc faster than those making the same journey by car, an official report has revealed.

The report, based on monitoring of the city's Quality Bus Corridors (QBC), has found that due to gridlock, buses are outperforming cars on seven on the city's nine routes.

There is also an increase in the number of commuters leaving their cars at home, according to the survey by the Dublin Transportation Office (DTO).

Commuters travelling into the city on the Finglas QBC during the morning rush hour are benefiting most.

The average bus journey on the route takes 11 minutes 46 seconds, compared to 20 minutes 20 seconds by car, resulting in a 42pc time saving.

Well, that's certainly good for the proponents of BRT (aka "Bus Rapid Transit", which the QBCs are actually a form of). For those that do not know, politicians in many developed countries are touting BRT as a "lower-cost" alternative to LRT, which is not necessarily true. Either way, it's darn good to see the QBCs starting to trounce the ridiculous road traffic insofar as efficient commuting...only took them how long, 12 years to hit the papers since the QBC concept was first introduced??

Yea Al, But beware ....The actual QBC they are spouting about is the FINGLAS one !!!!
Now spare me a cynical smile but I am still unconvinced about the DTO`s motives in all this as the good Mr Henry then went off into a lay More Tracks spiel after revealing the QBC "News" to a startled and compliant media ....

Is there an echo in here?

Would prob reach 50% if normal public kept out of Buslanes, Taxis actually learned to have some manners and not stop in front of buses, and cyclists were given proper Cycle lanes on the pavement.

some of the cycle lanes are a joke with bumps at driveways like all around the foxrock/leopardstown area and churchtown, and what about eijets who park in cycle lanes, its hard trying to stay out of buslanes with all of this going on

Yes i agree Mr Pee Off but its much better to cycle around the obstacles rather than be hit by a bus doing 40mph on the N11 for example, where the cycle lane is away from the road for that very reason.

But they didn't mention that after the Lucan QBC was opened the bus journey increased by nearly 40 minutes!

Not sure was this ever fixed - anybody?

Also the 24 hr QBCs - in areas with no 24hr bus services?

Not to mention areas like Swords where the QBC was not accompanied by a damatic improvement in timetables or service provision?

Not good news on the 39 route.

Dublin Bus are so impressed by the lenght of time it takes the bus to do the scenic route that they refuse to put on a decent 39B service in the evenings.

They are delighted to see me spend a needless 25 minutes extra on the bus on the journey time home as the bus wends its merry way through Blanch Village, up the Clonsilla Road, down Blanchardstown Road South, into the Blanchardstown Centre, joining the qs of traffic on the way in, out of Blanchardstown Centre the same way joining the queues of cars on the way out again. All in all a delightful scenic route that at least keeps you in out of the rain.

Well done Dublin Bus. Obviously you don't listen to your customers, after all, what the hell would they know about commuting.
