DB re-destroying route 172 now.

Take a look at this here blurb.

Unbelievable. The 72 had been running for how many years? then in the very early 1980s they cancel it. When they brought back the 172, I was very pleased to see the comeback of this route, even in a limited capacity. Now they are taking it off Oxmantown Road, and why??

I suspect that there is no good reason for this. Probably going to blame low ridership on Oxmantown Road again, or perhaps some customers belly-aching how they want to go to the Prussia Street area on this bus (in which case they ought to have walked a few feet to catch the 37 on Blackhorse Avenue)...but now they have thrown the 172 into the same disgusting over-jammed mess on both Aughrim Street and Prussia Street, which already have frequent bus service.

(Pardon my taking this personally, but I remember the predecessor route 72 quite fondly, having used it to visit my aunt's house when she lived in the area years ago. DB seem hell-bent on destroying the improvements that were made during the early 1990s; I hope that a backlash will occur sooner than later, and not one involving putting more cars on the road.)

U so correct on this one AL.
Probably the main reason for the abandonment of OxO is the "Traffic Calming Measures" installed along the road (Humps. But that doesnt sound technical enough).
One thing is for sure but LFDD buses and Traffic Calming Measures do NOT mix.
Inadvertently however you have put your finger on a very salient point for LUAS and any other transport entity in Dublin.
Our Customer base would not walk an INCH to avail of an alternative service even if it is a better frequency.
Just you wait to hear the moaning and wailing when the fragrant ladies are turfed off the Tram at Stephens Green and told they are in the City Centre !!.
However BAC should have been more concerned about developing OxO rather than merely attempting to "Corridor" yet another route. Imagination....???? Not this year I`m afraid !!

Al will be delighted to know that for the last week route 172 has reverted to serving Oxmantown Road and is using MV minibuses again.
