Think privatisation works?

It certainly has not in New York City. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is currently in the throes of taking over the operations of seven private bus operators, most of whom operate in the Queens borough. Among the problems plaguing the private operators are inability to keep to a timetable, buses in bad condition, and many others. Currently, the fare is 50 cents less than the MTA bus fare; but considering what is gotten in exchange, the MTA takeover looks like a positive thing.

Lest anyone think that privatisation is truly viable, consider that it is due to the unprofitability and unreliability of private bus operations within cities and suburbs that CIE was created in thie first place.

Here are some articles from Straphangers.org, whom are an advocacy group for public transportation.

Those of you who have read my other postings will know my dislike for privatisation. I agree with most of what you say Al. Private bus companies only outprice and compete with each other, devaluing the public transport SYSTEM!
