BUSRAGE Discussions » General Issues
Live Web Chat

Sorry folks, I know this is a bus orientated site, but as you may know Platform 11 has withdrawn its support for the Western Rail Corridor Project. We believe the money would be better spent in getting the current network up to scratch, particularly in the Dublin area. While funding has already been set aside for some of this we want to make sure that all available funding is ploughed into "functioning" rail routes in the short to medium term.
So on Tuesday April 6th a live Web Chat will take place in our chat room.(It can be accessed via our web site)
If anyone here is interested, please log on. Platform 11 committee members will be online to answer questions on our stance. The WRC will be discussed between 8pm and 9pm.
9pm to 10pm is general discussion on rail issues.
This topic might be of interest to public transport users in the greater Dublin area as Platform 11 believes that major investment should be concentrated there to serve the growing and well established demand.
Cheers

Just how much money is available that picking and choosing of projects now has to happen?
There really is no need to completely withdraw WRC support; if anything, such a corridor should go into completely private hands especially with the notion of running freight, i.e. if the government is so staunch against investing in such a corridor. Frankly, the Dublin area is the best off of any of the railway network; this will lead to more protest against so-called "Pale-rail" while the rest of the country is neglected, I suspect.
IMHO, Platform 11 should not waver in what they support; any wavering will be picked up on by the Dáil, rest assured. Stand firm, I urge.Posted 4 years ago # -

A most prescient observation on the extent of the Harney/Brennan Public Transport plan.
