Racism on the Bus

A very strange and disturbing happened the other day as I was waiting for the 48A in Ballinteer. The bus pulled up and this young kid standing beside me gave it the finger and then spat on the ground. Steady on I said to myself, Dublin Bus aren't that detestable. But then I noticed the guy driving the bus was black. I was disgusted that this ignorant little bastard was being such a little nazi. I mean do some parents say to their kids on their way out the door, make sure if the bus driver isn't white you spit on him? I think these guys have a harder job than your average white bus driver and they are generally friendlier in my experience. It must be terrible to think some ignorant racist little knacker is going going to be insult you while you try and work. Anyone agree, sorry about the strong language.

  2. This certainly is a big problem, and it will become more pronounced when more drivers from other ethnic backgrounds come and work for DB.

The strange thing is, that kid probably relies on the bus to get around, and if that driver decides to pack in his job he could be left at the bus stop complaining about the lack of service.

I agree with Niall most of the non-national bus drivers I have seen on my trips on buses have been extremely friendly and courteous, I have had non-national drivers even saying "thank you sir" and saying "welcome aboard"...most I have got from white drivers is not even a grunt.

Fare play to them they dont deserve it any more than anyone else, regardless wether theyre black white blue green or orange, theyre human beings :-)

Has any incidence of this phenomenon increased in light of what happened at the World Trade Center in New York...? I've heard that a lot of Muslims have settled in Ireland; in the US, Muslims and Arabs have been targets of "hate crimes" recently, especially since the attack on the WTC on the 11th of September. It would be sad to see the same thing happen in Dublin, but I suppose it's human nature...:-(

I used to work with a romanian chap, who is now driving a bus. Pleasant guy, pretty big though 6ft tall & 6ft wide. Some punter asked him for his "golden teeth", and some little kid started kicking the crap of of the abuse giver. Lovely, just Lovely. There's hope there yet......not for Dublin Bus of course, that still blows!!!
