Drivers smoking
(7 posts)-
I was on an 11 last night, heading to Kilmacud and the driver was just smoking away. Who can I complain to in Dublin Bus about this?Posted 4 years ago #

According to
http://www.dublinbus.ie/home/contact_details.asp
you can either write to
Customer Comment Desk, Public Affairs Department, Dublin Bus,
59 Upper O'Connell Street, Dublin 1
or contact the garage directly (11 operates from Donnybrook).
The customer charter says
"It is Dublin Bus company policy that all staff will:
* Not smoke when on duty on a bus, or in the public area of our Head Office"
and, if you write to complain, you will get a written acknowledgement within 4 working days and an answer within 15 working days. It is recommended you include your ticket along with as much information about the infraction as possible.Posted 4 years ago # -
First of all, you would be well within your rights to complain about the driver in question. However, driving a bus (particularily on such a busy route as the 11) is an extremely stressful job, as I am sure you will appreciate and many people who rely on cancer sticks occasionally feel the urge while driving (It's better than road-rage). Now, I presume (although I may be wrong) that the driver had his cab window open at the time, thus allowing very little of the smoke to pollute the lungs of his passengers. If indeed, you were choking in his smoke, certainly complain. Otherwise, what harm was he doing? (apart from leaving the cab like a filthy ashtray for the next driver) There are bus drivers engaging in far more dangerous habits than smoking on duty (earphones, for instance!) and "ratting" on someone can be seen as a very childish, petty thing to do, a practise normally carried out by people with little else to occupy their minds.

The fact is I was sitting upstairs and I could smell smoke and thought of course it was another passenger. it was only when I was getting off the bus that I realised it was the driver!

Right on Neil.....I may well have been the next Driver to take that bus over and as a non-smoker myself I absolutely DETEST having to sit into a smoke ridden cab with the ashes of some twit`s cigarettes covering every surface.
For my money,I would have come downstairs and asked the eejit as loudly as possible to put out the damn cigarette or U would call the Gards !!!Posted 4 years ago # -

I won't dispute that, but how well does nicotine gum or patches help calm the urge (I don't smoke myself.)
I remember the upstairs-smoking era, but one thing I would get annoyed with was that if someone in the front seat of the bus knew the driver, they would be smoking away, so there would be no escape from the smell of the stuff. :-Posted 4 years ago # -
It's bad enough when the scumbags at the back of the bus light up, but what hope do you have when the driver does it. That driver was completely out of order and there is no excuse for his action.
Report him. I for one want to travel on smoke free buses. That's my right, by the way. If a driver feels the urge to have a smoke he should wait till his break and light up then.Posted 4 years ago #
