Dublin Bus services to be disrupted by unofficial action
    22/01/2004 - 7:47:15 am

Dublin Bus services are expected to be disrupted for a number of hours this morning as drivers down tools to attend a mass union meeting.

The company has advised passengers that the unofficial protest could cause "severe" disruption from 9.30am until the early afternoon.

The union meeting was originally organised to coincide with a two-hour stoppage by SIPTU workers at Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports this morning. That stoppage was called off yesterday, but SIPTU's Dublin Bus branch decided to press ahead with today's meeting regardless.

The meeting does not have the approval of senior SIPTU officials and Dublin Bus has vowed to deduct wages from any drivers who attend while rostered for duty.

To all employees of Dublin Bus.

I hold an annual travel pass that I have paid for thru the employee deduction scheme.

I certainly hope that there will be no disruption to the transport service as a result of this meeting. Why on earth would you want to give the Minister for Public Statements any excuse to slag DB employees off. Let the Minister do his talking to the Press while you rise above it by paying no notice to what he says outside of a discussion forum.

Instead, a good form of protest might be for all employees in DB to send a letter to the Minister expressing their views. A few thousand letters arriving on his doorstep might soften his cough.

    RS.I agree 100% with you.
Sadly this "Information Meeting" has far more to do with INTERNAL Siptu Affairs than with the greater scenario.
As an NBRU member I will not be attending as I feel that our resources should be directed towards drawing Minister Brennan from his lair and forcing him to get down to specifics.
Todays Meeting is little more tan Marxist/Leninists doing practice runs for Revolution Day.
