   I've been getting the 51X in it's various flavours (%1d etc) for 3 years now, and I have one rather puzzled question. Is the route open to driver decision or what?
   
   If I Get the 07:30 bus (which comes any time from 07:25, 5 minutes b4 it's supposed to leave the terminus, to 07:50, 10 minutes b4 the next one is due) some moringings it proceeds down the naas road, through incicore, and up onto the johns road , via hueston , the keys etc. other mornings, with no degree of consistency, it takes a left at kylemore road and goes through ballyfermot. May I ask why? the bus doesn't pick up in the area (although some drivers go the wrong way, and pick up and drop off at every stop, making it slower than the non express buses). it seems no faster, i'm just puzzled.
   Can someone suggest a reason for the above please?

   It probably happens cos the driver on the route is not familiar with the express route, or maybe is used to the regular route and goes by mistake.
   
   Before the advent of the 39B that bypasses the Blanchardstown Centre, some 39X drivers used to take the scenic normal 39 route around the Greater (and I mean greater) Blanchardstown area and shuffle in and out of the centre the long way around. On at least one occasion the passengers had to direct the driver on the correct route.
