Privatisation
(8 posts)-
My question about privatisation is: If I have an annual commuter ticket (bus&rail... sucker for punishment, me!)... will it still work on routes that are run by private companies? And if not, will CIE bring down the price of these annual tickets? I mean if they decided to privatise the Maynooth bus service, then I have no use for the bus portion of my ticket. It's disgusting enough what they get away with on the trains let alone taking routes away on the bus which will only over tax the trains more.Posted 4 years ago #

The Department of Transport has offered no nitty-gritty information as to how privatisation will work, just a series of soundbites which transport jurnos happily lap up without question.
There are so many unanswered questions it's not funny, and don't forget that Brennan said he intended to have 25% of dublin Bus in private hands by January 2004....
We wrote to the ministers office *ages* ago to ask about commuter tickets, and have yet to receive a reply.
You're best bet is to give the department a call and see what they say, their number is (01) 670 7444. Let us know what they say, I bet they won't even be able to give you an answer.Posted 4 years ago # -
Will people ever stop referring to "Privatisation" please?
Privatisation Schmivatisation!
Privateering is more likely to be the outcome. It certainly won't be competition and it certainly won't be cheaper.
Privatisation is a word that the Min for Transport uses to hide behind as an excuse NOT to upgrade services or introduce new services in Dublin Bus.Posted 4 years ago # -
Another thing. Did you know that Dublin Bus has to ask the Department for Transport for permission if it wants to introduce an upgrade to a service.
What the hell is all that about? What's the point of having a public transport company if it has to ask for permission to operate like this? Why doesn't the Department disband DB and do the whole thing themselves?Posted 4 years ago # -
Privatisation does not neccessarily mean competition. It simply means the placing of a company or companies in private hands.
I never said that the privatisation being proposed by Brennan would result in competition. In fact I wrote the opposite of that some time ago! What Brennan plans is a series of private monopolies.
And yes, privateering will be the outcome, even the minister has admitted this in not so many words.
As far as going to the department for permission everytime Dublin bus make a change, this has been the case for quite a while (anybody remember the 84N fiasco?).
A current example of the effect of departmental ineptitude on Dublin Bus services is the fact that DB wish to introduce an expanded, every 15mins, 24 hour version of the 746 bus route.
The department have effectively spiked this, nothing whatsoever to do with favourable treatment for our pals over at Air-"lets park wherever we like"-Coach then. With this in mind, competition is definitely not on the agenda for this government.Posted 4 years ago # -
Well for the SECOND year running it appears the Department has spiked the 84N past Christmas.
It seems that Central Government firmly believes that the lower orders in the Greystones area may only be allowed to socialize and access PUBLIC Transport for 11 months each year.......Posted 4 years ago # -
Jeepers Cripes! It's worse than I thought.
I'm now just wondering why Dublin Bus wasn't decentralised in the Minister for Finance's budget speech. If Dublin Bus aren't allowed to plan and introduce routes and service upgrades in Dublin, as a normal part of its care and management functions, why not decentralise it to the Blaskets?Posted 4 years ago # -
Its worse than that....
Ponder on the following....
Since its inception the Initial Line of LUAS to become operational was always thought to be Line A (Tallaght).
Even LUAS publicity up to recently averred to this.
Last year an innocious little press Release on an associated topic contained a reference to Line B (Sandyford) being operational first.
Whilst it will no doubt provide exceptional PR footage of a Beaming Minister Brennan sat astride the Cow-Catcher of a Shiny LUAS Tram as it chugs across the Golden Gate it remains a fact that the entire operational schedule has been altered without any apparent reason.
I wonder if there is an associated cost for this material alteration in the Plan..
No doubt if there is,it has been well and truly buried where ordinary mortals wont find it.
And people wonder why so much antipathy exists between transport Workers and this vaudevillian Minister..?Posted 4 years ago #
