i'm a non dublin person so i don't know the county that well and trudging through each bus route on dublinbus.ie is annoying.how about a new idea for this site or maybe a petition to get it on theirs. You put in where you going from and to where you want to go.They come back with all times, bus numbers, where its leaving from, etc.
I think this would be bloddy helpful. What ya think??

Oh…I thought that this thread was about actual route planning in the sense of determining where the routes go, when they run and how frequently, and how to make them reliable and such-like…

Joe - there is a 'search by place name' on the Dublin Bus site?
    Did this not help you?

A few weeks ago I rang BAC to ask for suggestions on how to get from Dublin Airport to the Malahide Road end of Griffith Ave.
The person told me of a bus going from the airport to Malahide (I assume it was presumed that Malahide was near Malahide Road). When I rang a second time I got a bit more help but I actually had to feed info I got from the web site to the person.

When in San Francisco a few years ago I called the equivalent of BAC and got the required routes to get to my destination.
Last night I saw an old episode of the Channel 4 "Location, location, location" series. The presenter rang London's bus service and was able to get the same info including journey times and connection waiting times.

Maybe mapping/journey software (AA's web site has it for driving) could be helpful.
