I'm just a thick country sod from Galway who's just moved up to Tallaght, and is hoping to begin flying lessons. However, I feel a little undercurrent of dissent from locals (especially after reading today's Echo-Action on Weston Airport? a very confrontational name for an organisation.....). Should I steer clear for fear of being pelted with tomatos?

Ah Colm,a mhic you are only being affected by the NIMBY people again.
i live on the flight path to Baldonnel yet I was amazed by the negativity shown to Tony Ryan a couple of years ago when he revealed his proposals to develop it as a second airport for Dublin.
Thank Jaysus the Wright Bros wer`nt Irish or we would still be settin sail from Queenstown...!

What exactly is happening there? I’ve been searching archives of on-line newspapers and I haven’t turned up what’s going on. What are the NIMBYs up to? If they let that motorway through there, then they shouldn’t be bothered by any other development, right?

I used to live quite near Weston Airport, back when it was a mere “aerodrome”. I remember the days before they built the paved runway and when it was just a grass strip. (I believe the owner had in his possession a blue Buick Regal, a mid-1970s model.)

Frankly, I never thought that the place was considered to be in Leixlip, unless this is something new; back when I was living there, the airport was regarded to be in Cooldrinagh and not Leixlip at all.

Incidentally, the 67 and 67A are the buses to get there…

celbribge road has not changed much there over the years so there is a traffic issue and a noise issue to to position of the last estates in Lexilip being behind it and the little old cottages on the celbribge road.

There is also the possibility that Baldonnell will be made the cities 2nd commercial airport and weston would be within the peramiters allowed for an airfield near an airport.
