Maybe this has come up already but has anyone much experience of buying tickets online from Bus Eireann. To be fair to them, using the website is fairly easy. After you've selected your ticket, you receive an email with a reference number on it which you are to give to the driver who then issues you with a normal ticket. I did that (no problems) but when I gave it to the driver, he had a very blank expression on his face. He said he had never heard of internet tickets, didn't know what I was talking about. I then pointed to the "Internet Fare" button on his ticket dispensing machine - he replied "I've never pressed that button before in my life"
He let me on the bus anyway and I eventually got a ticket later on at Busaras but is this not typical of Bus Eireann (CIE in general I suppose) that they launch online ticket sales and yet fail to communicate this change to its drivers properly. It's a great idea, saves time but after my experience I won't be doing it again!

Let them know, there might be a good reason.Posted 5 years ago #
