Dublin Bus are planning to relaunch the 746 (Dun Laoghaire-Foxrock-City-Airport) as a full 24-hour a day service, with an increased frequency (15mins) during the day, and for the first time in Dublin, a full "normal" service at night - i.e. all stops in both directions.

6 new Volvo B7TL double-deckers are in storage at Broadstone awaiting the union clearance and formal announcment of the route (which will continue to be operated from Donnybrook)

Nothing to do with the FirstGroup takeover of Aircoach . . . honestly . . .

Funnily enuf SoS the First/Aircoach event hasnt had ANY input into the 746 thing.
You would not believe just how long this single item has been "With the Department".
To give you some idea of the lethargy which our Government operates with,BAC had reached agreement in principle for this 24 Hr service with the Unions over six months ago.
At that time the application was already "Under Consideration" by Kildare St and as of today that is still the position.
It seems to me that ANY operator who wishes to make a go of it may be well advised to simply go-ahead and run the service and put it up to Seamuseen to do something (Anything) about it.
The single most regressive and dampening feature of our Public Transport scene is a Department which is in a state of permanent Catatonia....(Nice one Nerys !!)

Hmm, does this mean that DB will eventually get rid of the 46A and replace it with the 746 on a permanent basis…? May as well make it an express run too…

Is there anything else for me to get sarcastic about yet…?

Don't forget that the 46A has a frequency of about every minute during the morning and evening peaks.

The 746 at it's new frequency will be as frequent as the 46A was in 1979!

I think proper bi-directional, all stops nightbuses - or better still, 24 hour full-service routes - are the way to go.

My other candidates for this would be:

16A (actually ideally having the 16A as the airport night service, and running the 46A rather than 746 as an all-nighter).

    19A

    31

    39

    45

    46A

    49

    51B

    66

That would give you a basic star-shaped coverage for starters.
