New buslane on N4!

I'm living in the long suffering area of west Clondalkin. (OK, OK I like the 51D, lovely bus, gets me hoem quite quickly). HOWEVER, the problems arise with the 51X rooute, which, travelling through inchicore, turns up past con colbert house, right on to the Johns road, and promtly grinds to a halt. It then takes 10-15 minutes (depending on traffic) to reach heuston station. I've put up with this because the regular route at that time is even slower.

Yesterday, I turn onto the Johns road and lo and behold, I find a bus lane. This runs most of the way from that junction to huston, shaving a good 10 mins off the journey. OK so we still get caught on the north quays. but it's nice to see someone putting the lane there.

Does anyone know how far back it extnds? and is it that I only noticed it yesterday or it's only been there that long?

It extend's right back from heuston to the end of the existing bus lane on the chapelizod by pass. It's technically not open yet but since not many of our city's vehicle drivers read signs posted around our city nobody's noticed it's not operational yet. The bus lane is being put in place on the outward side of st John's road aswell.Furthermore the junction between
Con Colbert road and St John's road is to be re-aligned so the bus lane contiues right through it.This maybe on the outward side only though, I'm not sure.

You're right when you say that not many drivers read road signs.

Some bus lanes finish at 7pm mon to sat and are not in use on sundays. Most gobs**te drivers won't drive in the bus lane in these free times. Even if you were to put up a big sign saying the bus lane was not in use, they would still avoid driving on it. As a matter of fact, when I drive in them in these times, the gobs**tes seem to get very annoyed.

These gobs**tes are not to be confused with the sneaky baxtards that weasel up bus lanes when they are in operation, to skip traffic queues and cut in ahead of you. Some appropriately placed cameras should take care of that problem. An added bonus to the cameras is that there would then be no need for Garda cars to park in bus lane blocking it for buses.

On the Blanchardstown by-pass the buses have to join the ordinary gobs**tes in the traffic queues to get past the Garda car. This seems to be a more frequent occurrence at the Corduff ramp onto the N3 city bound.
