Funny about that 10 billion proposal for the Metro (whatever was supposed to be included in that), but how many billions will be spent on motorways when all is said and done? And guess whatthose motorways will not do Dublin any good, unless it is to jam it up with more cars and trucks (and if you regard such as good).
I myself am quite disgusted over the whole fiasco. So, absolutely nothing gets done about the increasing congestion in Dublin city centre now, all so that they can build motorways connecting all of the major cities, which in and of itself is a further excuse to continue the dismantling of the railway network around the country.
When are these fools in Leinster House going to wake up, when the traffic is so dense that there is zero motion within a fifty-mile radius?? Probably take fifty years to wake them up, like in the USA
but not even in the US have all cities woken up. Wake me when its over
I am thoroughly disgusted.

Guess what? The same investment and time criteria NEVER apply to railway infrastructure projects, at least as far as the "opinion formers" in this country are concerned. We can build all the mosherways we want, but they will never be criticised for going over time and over budget, and inside the canal ring will still have the same capacity, ie, not a lot.
Where were all the Luas bashers and Metro moaners when the Glen of the Downs Road came in late? Where were our "outraged" Luas bashers when the Dundrum Bypass, one kilometre of road came in at ¤1m for construction and ¤13m for "Compo"?
As ever, double standards. The Lords of the Doheny and Nesbitt School of Economics will always hate rail projects, because it conflicts with their credo of "Public Squalor, Private Affluence". Enjoy sitting in your cars, you will be doing a lot more of it in the years to come.

What makes me wonder sometimes is why the Government would invest so much (of our) money in a light rail system which - if you believe the naysayers - will congest traffic even further when they could have taken that money and put it towards the Metro system. It avoids the roads altogether!! Designing a LUAS line AND a Metro line is a very bad and expensive idea and Minister Brennan should have committed to one plan or the other. I wonder if the Tube and the Paris Metro went through the same s**te 100 years earlier?

Work for the government, do you? If not, then you ought to feel bad about being too cowardly to demand better from the government, not to mention giving them undue praise. Buy a house lately in Ireland?? I am guessing the answer to that is a resounding no, otherwise you'd be singing a far different tune...Posted 3 years ago #
