IE closes Donabate bridge for repair, 33B cannot go to Portrane?

    Details here.

It isn’t the NRA that does bridge replacement but IE? This is a road bridge in Donabate, not a railway bridge over a road. I would have not seen this as being part of railway infrastructure myself.

However, there you go. IE is rebuilding or replacing the bridge, and road access to Portrane is completely cut off, seemingly—which begs the question of why there is not a temporary bridge set up to cross the railway (like other civilised nations do), and how would people that drive in and out of Portrane get out to the N1? Or is it just the buses that have to suffer. This is rapidly making zero sense to me.

As it stands, the 33B and that ridiculous route 33 side-trip via Portrane will stop at the “Swords side” of the station (which in logical terms means the northbound platform) while a shuttle bus service will await on the other side of the station.

Is this setup making sense to anybody…?

There is indeed an arrangement for cars to get in and out of Donebate during the closure, by driving through the railway station and across the tracks on a temporary crossing, however that arrangment is suitable for cars only.

Dublin Bus are leaving a bus on the Portrane side of the railway which wil shuttle back and forwards, and which will refuel at the local filling station for the duration of the works. Let's hope it doesn't break down!

Al - from your post I can see that you obviously know very little about the situation in Donabate.

Wow, is it that obvious? You know, I cannot just go down to Donabate whenever I wish, which is why I go here and ask questions. Mr. O’Shea was kind enough to help out—how about you pitch in, Dips? that is, if you know anything, which I am starting to suspect against.

What I do know is that there is but one bridge that goes in and out of Portrane, and that is the one over the railway. (I have been there in the past, you know.) Not only that, I have seen how things are done while a bridge is being repaired over a railway—either a temporary level crossing is put in for all road traffic or a temporary bridge is erected for the same purpose. Amazing that a temporary level crossing that can support cars only is subsequently put in—but wait a sec, what about lorries? I bet that they are using the crossing also.

Let’s hear some of Dipso’s wisdom now, please, instead of nonsensical flames…

once again your ignorance of the situation shines through..LOL. The reason for no lorries was that a one way loop was in operation and the only way back out of the peninsula was via the corballis road which runs beneath a height restricted bridge!!!!!!!
Anyway - the bridge is operational again now and i imagine i speak for the majority of people from this area when i say that the new bridge is a huge improvement from a traffic point of view.

Still - there are always whingers.......

  8. Dipso - If you are posting on the board to impart information that is grand. If you are coming on to stir things up, that is not grand.

from your post I can see that you obviously know very little about the situation in Donabate.

Saying things like that serves no purpose other than to start a flamewar and make yourself look like a troll.

If you want to discuss the rail/road bridge in Donabate that's fine, but lets not get personal.

oh i am sorry mr administrator. At least my posts are factual.

Al - i also apologise to you. I didnt realise your life was so empty that you have to comment on things you know know nothing about and that will never affect you.

LOL....why would i know you were 3600 miles away? i wouldnt have thought anyone could be that sad.

I will now leave you people to your sad little message board of misinformation and misery.

  10. Dipso - Al didn't come on to comment on someting he knows nothing about, if you read his original post he came on asking questions about the bridge.

He wasn't looking to impart mis-information, he was looking for answers! If he wanted to spread lies his posting wouldn't have contained all those question marks.

As far as his interest goes, what makes you say it will never affect him?

His being 3600 miles away, well that's pretty obvious from many of his previous postings (and his ip address).

Basically, as I said above, factual,on-topic posting is fine and encouraged, but personal digs are not. Read the terms and conditions.

Dipso: If you are looking for people to brand as “sad” then that must mean that you yourself are a sad sack. Now I pity you, to be quite frank.

Of course, you running away with your tail between your legs means that all you wanted to do is post flames anyway. Sad, sad person you are. Thanks for your updates (and your seemingly insincere apology), and please grow up because it’s a very cruel world out there and accusing people of attempting to spread misinformation (in writing, this is libel) can lead to bad things like lawsuits, beatings and possibly a spell in Mountjoy.
