Hmm, I know this one
Starting in Cabra, terminus at corner of Faussagh Road and Dowth Avenue. Going southbound, route is Faussagh Road to left turn on Quarry Road; left turn on Cabra Road to NCR; NCR to right turn on Dorset Street, Dorset Street to left turn on North Frederick Street; then Parnell Square East, OConnell Street, DOlier Street, right turn onto College Street, College Green, Dame Street; left turn on South Great Georges Street, Aungier Street, Wexford Street, Camden Street, bear left on Charlotte Street (before it was built over and Charlotte Way was created), Charlemont Street, Ranelagh Road, right turn onto Charleston Road, left turn onto Belgrave Square East, thence to Palmerston Road; right turn on Cowper Road, left turn on Upper Rathmines Road, left turn onto Palmerston Park to terminus.
Northbound buses, left turn from Palmerston Park onto Palmerston Road, then follow above route northbound, with major differences being operation via Harcourt Road to Upper Camden Street instead of Charlotte Street, Westmoreland Street to OConnell Bridge instead of DOlier Street and College Street, Parnell Street/Parnell Square East/Granby Row to Dorset Street, and in Cabra, the bus turned off Faussagh Road and operated on Delvin Road (bus stop), Annaly Road and Dowth Avenue to turn around in the opposing direction onto Faussagh Road.Posted 5 years ago # -
For last paragraph (northbound routing) read Parnell Square West instead of East.Posted 5 years ago #

As a matter of interest, the northern half of the 12 was previously numbered 54A between 1934 and 1938 and previous to that between 1932 and 1934 was numbered 50A !!!!!. When the 12 tram (Nelson's Pillar - Palmerston Park) was replaced by buses at the end of 1938 it was extended over the 54A Cabra service, the 12 tram service dates from May 1879.
Regarding route numbers, the DUTC once had a route number system that had plain numbers running southside and suffixed route numbers on the northside for example :
44 City - Enniskerry.
44A City - Mt Prospect Ave.
oddly before this the 44 was City - Vernon Ave while the 44A was City - Sandymount!!!!.
45 City - Bray
45A City - Beaumont.
50 City - Crumlin
50A City - Cabra
51 City - Clondalkin
51A City - Boot Inn later Beaumont. Still exist today, therefore historical!!.
52 City - Oxmanstown Rd
52A City - Griffith Ave, more an east-west thing this one.
53 City - East Wall
53A City - Knockmaroon later City - Glasnevin. ast-west again.
54 City - Kimmage X Rd's
54A City - Cabra.
The present 17 (south orbital) and 17A (north orbital) was the invention of CIE, the orginal plan was to connect these routes together to make a large 'C' shape route around Dublin, hence the 17A number was kind of temporary.
