Crap buses
(19 posts)-
I would like to ask CIE why they always send the really crap buses out to Tallaght and keep the good buses for the likes of Foxrock( and yes i speak for experience) .

Yes I agree! Why do Foxrock get all the new 46A's. The crap ones are sent
to Ballybrack and Loughlinstown (111's 7's and 45A's) as well. And they
don't even stick to the f**kin' timetables. A 111 is supposed to go at 20.30
and yet the driver is sitting in there reading the Sun!! And then he decides to
go half an hour later. And there we are waiting for a 111 or a 45A in Dun
Loaghaire in the pissing rain watching 46A's wizzing past every 5 mins.
Obviously the planners of this company only think people need 46A's.
They should me made go to work from Ballybrack, Killiney and Louglinstown.
That's what I say.

Ive always been a hater of the poxy and useless bus 46a! being a 7/a user all my life this 46a nonsense has to stop soon, why the hell does this route even exist??? its always had the newset buses and the most frequent its as if the person who runs dublin bus has always lived along this route, as if they have a company mansion in foxrock, which is probably the case. I have never seen the point in the 46a going to dunlaoghaire after foxrock as the thing is practically f**king empty, and why it has never served the rochestown area, instead were left with the 7 which is the poxiest bus route in Dublin with the oldest buses!!! dont know what your talking about Mr 77a as all the buses ive gone to tallaght on bar the 75 and 56a are brand spankin new! also howcome when your not waiting for a 46a there is always hundreds of them speeding past but when you actually go to wait for one your waiting 30 mins as was the case today???????????

The majority of buses seen on the 7 & 7A were registered in 1999 (some of them didn't enter service until 2000), so in fairness, while it might pass through some fairly 'poxy' areas, the 7 isn't left with the oldest buses.

Precisely the 7 is always the last to get the new buses, I think this route was the last one to be using thos legendary bombardier buses up as far as around 1995/6 or whenever they were finally taken out of service.

Spare a thought for the poor ould Ballyer and Neilstown natives.Herded onto 91,95,96, and 97 reged buses, most of which are in rag order.Even in tallaght they get a good dose of new ones,we can't even get a glimpse of a low floor bus in these parts,New or old. :-(

Unless you're elderly, disabled or pushing a pram, there is absolutely no advantage at all in using low-floor buses, so I fail to understand why so many people feel the need to whinge about the use of five-year-old Volvo Olympians on the 7.

Hmm, I got chewed out for saying something similar in another thread. Something about having arms weighed down with groceries and how getting on the low-floor bus was far easier...(but for those in shape, or even out of shape like me, it's no problem getting up a couple of steps even with a few bags; and then again, who goes shopping on the bus anymore?)Posted 4 years ago # -
Theres more leg room on the new buses thats why i hate the old ones ye have to sit sideways on the poxy yokes! or else get a wedgy and bruised kneecaps :o(

Excuse my while I interrupt your rants with some solid facts.
Tallaght was the very first place in Dublin to get the lowfloor double-decks when they were new - the first routes to be converted were the 65 and 65B, with the 49 following a year or so later.
The 77A currently uses midlife Volvo Olympians - mostly 95/96 reg. The 56A is a mix of 00-reg lowfloor and older Olympians.
Route 7 is very well served with still fairly new (in bus terms) 99-reg buses.
Dublin Bus has a fleet of just under 1100 buses, which are relaced over a 12-15 year lifespan. Not every area can have new buses every year - I live in Ballinteer for example, where the main routes are operated by buses dating from 1995 (14/A), 1997 (16) and 1999 (48A) despite the fact that it is a fairly well-off area, with little vandalism to buses. So it's not a class thing.
As also witnessed by the 51b (Clondalkin) which had the new lowfloor doubledeckers from the first delivery in 2000.
The 77A had new buses in 1991, and then again in 1995/6 - and in both cases they were ripped to shreds by the local populance within weeks of coming on the road.
When the fleet replacement programme gets around to this route again, doubtless you will treat the new buses in exactly the same way.

Hovering over all of this is that there is less bus service than about a half- to three-quarters of a decade ago, there are far more cars, the Luas Line A will start up sometime next month...and, despite DB's reported surplus, no real re-investment seems to be happening in the most important end of things, that of the actual service. If DB reports a deficit this year, can we assume that the cash got diverted into big-boss salaries...?

BTW, thanks to the troll who resurrected a three-year old thread. This was before the advent of low-floorers, wasn't it...?Posted 4 years ago #

Gary says:
"phibsboro garage had RH161-164 a while back but they were transferred to donnybrook but these RH`s were not like any ther RH.
They were like RV buses inside with new blue seats and the interior changed too.
why couldnt they give them RH121-125,with the worn out green seats and that horrible musty old smell they have, then put them on the 46A".
----
Two points here. Firstly you are only giving half the story - Phibsboro did not "give" the buses to Donnybrook, they were swapped for NEWER buses - 1994 reg AD-class, with the blue seats etc, some of which had just gone through the the extensive refurb programme.
Secondly, Phibsboro Management had the choice of which buses to give in return for the ADs - they CHOOSE to give those RHs, because the other ones you spoke of were going through the refurb programme, and they preferred to give Donnybrook unrefurbished ones.
Thirdly, Donnybrook has it's own allocation of older, green-seat, musty-smelling RHs, as do most garages.
Next!

"So why do Donnybrook get all the better buses,is it because they serve south dublin and the residents couldnt hack the wrecked RHs?"
Probably because Donnybrook Garage tends to maintain its buses better than most other garages. Compare the quality of Donnybrook's RH150 with that of Conyngham Rd's RH80, for instance...

I return:
If people in Tallaght are wanting new low floor buses, I should point out that they will soon have much better: A brand new fleet of Alstom Cidatis LUAS trams, which they will probably bust up anyway.

Now now Mr angry take a trip upstairs on any one of your buses on the 45 and look at the state of them! Ive seen nicer ones in Ballymun! Any way i think that Clontafr depo has the nicest fleet & correct me if im wrong but Clontarf oldest bus now is a 93RH?? I get 6 buses a day 17A to Finglas 40D/220 to Ballycoolin and same when im coming home then later on a 17A to & from gf,s! Im quite happy with the buses i travel on Summerhills Rh,s are a credit to the garage and are 99% clean, then you have the 04 AV,s on the 220 which too are spotless. Have to say the worst bus ive travelled on todate was a Donnybrook one! think it was rv417!

The heads on the 45 would never attempt to damage a bus! Shame on you for even suggesting such a thing!
Clontarf certainly is a nice little garage. But for such a large garage, Donnybrook certainly does a good job of keeping a clean fleet of buses. 417 has had its problems, including an unfortunate incident in Bray three years ago and is certainly a runt in an otherwise fine litter...
