who was the eegit that said dowth avenue was to small for double deckers so the 121 was rerouted
well he must not have been on the southside part of that route
the 121 goes down o,donovan road which is clearly smaller than dowth avenue and those ramps on it dont help much. why??why??

Also, to be more accurate, one should say narrow road. There are two ways a road can be small, in length and in breadth.

Mind you, the definition of what is too narrow a street to permit double-deck operation has changed over the years, it seems. The 44 ran on Hillcrest Road in Sandyford in both directions for ages on end (so that it could serve Lamb’s Cross before operating via Kilgobbin); now it goes via Sandyford Village. Before Temple Bar became “Temple Bar,” routes 78, 78A, 78B and 79 used to run on it all the time (routes 51/51B later, when they left from Bedford Place). Routes 24 and 51A used to run one-way via Shielmartin Avenue in Marino. Years ago, Monkstown Farm and Oliver Plunkett Road were too narrow to host double-deck buses going in two directions—don’t know if they have widened it, but the 46A and old 58 used to run double-deckers on there daily. Route 37 used to run in two directions on Aughrim Street; routes 39/A/B still run bi-directionally on Prussia Street. The roads that the 84 use(d) going from Greystones through Kilcoole into Newcastle were also barely wide enough to allow two buses to pass at one time.

Dowth avenue is much busier, with parked cars and erratic old people, then O'Donovan Rd,plus the 120uses it.121is the only route using O'D Rd.So it makes sense for 121 to take the next turn
