Transport 2000 in Ireland?
(6 posts)-
Does Ireland have a Transport 2000 advocacy/activist group? Or do Busrage and other groups fulfill this activity?
T2000 is a group dedicated to passenger transport modes. They are present in Canada (http://www.transport2000.ca) and the UK (http://www.transport2000.org.uk), and perhaps a few other nations.Posted 7 years ago # -
The only advocacy group I am currently aware of is "Platform 11", which focuses on railways. http://www.platform11.orgPosted 7 years ago #

Platform 11 are great.
I especially like their idea for a crosstown shuttle, using the pheonix park link and other under utilised parts of Dublin rail infrastructure. I would give my eye teeth to see that up and running.

Tell me about it. When I was a kid, that line was actually running with passenger trains (but few and far between, however not inactive like today); one of the trains from Galway via the GSWR line (to Heuston) would operate through the tunnel thereof, then stop at Connolly and from there run express all the way to the old Carlisle Pier station in Dun Laoghaire to meet the Sealink ferry to Holyhead in Wales. Brilliant service.
When the DART was constructed, the Carlisle Pier tracks were lifted, the station put out of service, and the Galway train re-routed to terminate at Heuston; the former train service to the Pier was then replaced permanently with a bus. :-( Nowadays, it wouldn't make sense to restore the train station at Carlisle Pier, what with the ferries no longer leaving from that pier.
However, that ought not be an excuse to leave the Phoenix Park Tunnel sitting idle, at all. The crosstown shuttle idea is very worthy and ought to come to pass as quickly as possible. I advise all that read this thread to put their support behind the Platform 11 organisation on this scoreits either that or Luas Line A (or both, why not!), but I suspect that the shuttle line via the tunnel would have a certain edge over the Luas in some respectsPosted 7 years ago # -
when is Brennan going to see that the navan line will fall apartPosted 7 years ago #

Which Navan line is that, the GNR one that goes to Drogheda? Because the old MGWR line doesn't have tracks on it anymore.
