How lovely. The €2 fare is OK, it's actually in line with what New York City is planning to do :-P (IOW it'll put Dublin up there among the highest "transit" fares anywhere)...but how about some value for money here, you know: Institute a free transfer system, at least; get rid of the stage system at the same time (i.e. make it €2 for *all* lengths of journey), institute a child/senior fare of €1 (but make the cutoff age for the child 12 years of age instead of 16, or make the kids pay full fare if they are taller than the height of the fare box, that's an idea lifted from some US city bus operators)...and oh yeah, get rid of outer suburban fares too. (Never liked outer suburban fares, the mystery was annoying, to say the least because CIE never put it in the timetable and they still don't...)
: Following the Government decision to allow CIE to raise fares by 9%, Dublin Bus are doing just that.
: There is, however, some confusion as to what the new fares actually are, since posters on the buses themselves advertise stages 1-7 as €1, and 8-13 as €1.70. These would seem to have been scrapped in favour of the fares outlines below, which are taken directly from the dublinbus.ie site.
: These new fares come into force from 2nd Dec 2002
: ADULT CASH FARES
: Stages Fare
: 1 - 3 0.90
: 4 - 7 1.20
: 8 - 13 1.60
: 14 - 23 1.60
: Over 23 2.00
: CHILDREN'S CASH FARES
: Stages Fare
: 1 - 7 0.60
: Over 7 0.80
:
: SCHOOLCHILD CASH FARE
: All Stages 0.50
: SHOPPER'S CASH FARE
: All Stages 0.50
:
: NITELINK - ADULT FARES
: Unchanged (€4.00, except 33N, 41N extension, 67N, 88N which are €6).
: AIRLINK SERVICE CASH FARES
: ADULT (Single) €5
: CHILD (Single) €2
