Driver A, belated thanks for finding that out.
I hope that DB don't make a habit of this, because there will be a lot of late-running buses and so a lot of people will be left off buses thet they should be allowed to get!

DriverA, the incident happened on Saturday 30th September at about 19.15 hrs at the Lenehan's stop. I am almost certain, judging from the type of bus, that it had been running as one of the 15s.

I'm perfectly poilite. The "you people" remark is aimed at the person who chose to insult the driver despite not knowing his reasons for not letting him on.I use my bus to capacity all the time and never refuse when there is room.Others don't but thats another day's work.Maybe thats what happened here but calling the lad names is just silly and smacks of the "I'm right your wrong" attitude that a very many people we encounter have, despite having no idea of bus capacities/other issues which may be occuring at the time. Before I started driving buses I had little understanding of how difficult a job it can be.It really opens your eyes.Bob might not be as quick to comment if he was behind the wheel.
[posted by: Graham]

Graham, It's probably your "You People" attitude which causes a lot of problems for you and fellow drivers.
I have been on buses where drivers deal with situations in an excellent manner, and there are other drivers who like nothing more than to aggrivate passengers. If a bus is full then so be it. If a bus lets off 8 passengers and there is clearly room on board (i.e. you can see the space/empty seats through the windows) then he/she is expected to do their job and let passengers board the bus.
If a driver overloads his bus, then he is putting himself in a very dodgy situation, and should an accident occur, they could find themselves prosecuted.

[posted by: Graham]

Sometimes there are too many on and when one gets off that still leaves too many on.You people tend not to listen when we pull up to a stop and say a certain amount of people can get on.For example we say we can take 10 people and 15 barge on.then we get to a stop and one gets off,we're still overloaded by 4. You couldn't possibly know this so maybe you should think about that.
[posted by: Graham]

I've noticed this quite a bit where drivers change over in the city centre on cross city routes.
I don't really agree with the "drop off only' procedure, as surely the people at these stops have just as much right to board the bus. This is a problem on the Rock Road and Ballsbridge, where the 45 and 84 will not collect passengers and leave it to the 7, which can very often be full and have long gaps between buses. From a passengers point of view, there is something very annoying about a bus pulling into a stop to let passengers off but not letting you on, when you know it is going your direction. It does not encourage people to use the bus, it just leaves them annoyed.
I understand the traffic problems in the city, but when passenger A is left behind just so the bus gets to passenger B on time, it's not acceptable.
[posted by: P]

Its more likely to be a duty running very late and under controllers instruction to "Drop off Only" on its way into the City Centre.
This usually happens on longer routes such as the 45 or in the case of Rathmines probably an 83.

The point is to try and get the duty back on time for its next outbound departure.

In essence the increasing reliance on this practice underlines the REAL situation on the ground rather than the City Council/DTO coloured lines on map scenario which attempts to portray the situation as improving....It`s not !

The total absence of an integrated approach to the allocation of roadspace to Public Transport ensures that all we have are non-contentious priority measures.

One only has to look at Dub City Councils doggedly determined stance on retaining on street Pay and Display car parking in locations which compromise both the operation and safety of Bus routes to confirm our current laughable state.

More often than not this is a result of the engine being switched off and back on again at some point AFTER the driver has set his destination display for his next trip. What most of them don't realise or forget is that the display resets to out of service when the engine is restarted. This is particularly a problem outside garages or inthe city when driver changes are taking place.Very often the bus continues on its way displaying out of service.
[posted by: GRaham]

A couple of times recently I have seen buses marked out of service carrying several passengers, and not simply at the end of the journey. The other night (Saturday about 7.15pm) a bus marked as As seirbhis stopped in Rathmines, left off some of the passengers aboard and then continued on its journey into town with 6 or 7 passengers still on board. Was this correct behaviour by that driver?
