: Route 122 will be going all double-decker shortly too. DB are dumping the little Imp buses as they are costing too much to maintain. However, instead of investing in the larger, low-floor versions, they in their wisdom are assigning cumbersome double-decks to the routes. Is it just me or does that seem completely daft to anyone??
Well, it looks to me as though Dublin Bus is reverting to what CIE Dublin District operations was in the late 1970s/early 1980s. CIE back then didn't shirk to run a double-decker down almost any narrow road or street (e.g. Marino, where southbound buses 24 and 51A would run on Shielmartin Terrace, which is too narrow for two decent-size cars to pass each other on without mounting the sidewalk). And here I thought that the purpose of the City Imp fleet was to enable better manouevring of narrow streets?
I agree that more of the newer low-floor single-deck Imps should have been invested in. I'm guessing that DB wants to minimise on its spare parts inventory at the garages, and the best way to do that is to have similar types of buses operating out of the garages (of course, thanks to remaining low bridges, a "one-size-fits-all" approach is not possible). So, does this ruin Mercedes-Benz' impeccable reputation as far as building minibuses is concerned...?

Just copied this from the Dublin Bus website:
Timetable changes on Route 121
Dublin Bus wish to advise customers that on and from Sunday 19th May 2002, a revised timetable will come into operation on Route 121.
In future this route will be operated by Double Deck Buses. As a result Route 121 will no longer serve Faussagh Road and Dowth Avenue (due to the narrow width of Dowth Avenue), but will operate via Quarry Road to Cabra Road.
_______________________________________________
Ah, now, double-deckers become the one-size-fits-all except for low-bridge routes, very nice. What was it that happened about seven years ago on route 83, when they put those City Imp buses on there and increased service frequency—didn't ridership go up??
Well, at least Quarry Road gets bus service back...and, hopefully, they don't mess with route 120 and end up taking bus service off Dowth Avenue altogether (although I'd say that it's a low-boarding area anyway).
On this note: Why don't any of these routes serve Connaught Street??? The buses could go via Western Way and Phibsborough Road to O'Connell Street instead of Cabra Road, North Circular Road, and Berkely Road/Street, you know...
