Try posting a new topic. Upper Rathmines Road and Leinster Road are miles away from each other.

But that does make me wonder; are they gonna bring back the 47 to replace the 15C again...? Leinster Road is part of the old 47 route...

Yeah, some politicans really need a good ide béil so they get their act together. Either that, or have one single enitity who decides on bus stop locations. And an update should also be issued on this matter by the Dept. of Transport(if there's really a review ongoing)?

What’s the DAFT bus...? and when did it start serving Bothar Rath Maoinis Uachtarach...?

What does DAFT stand for, Dublin Area &!#@%* Transit...?

Sorry for being facetious...it’s clear that DCC are out of control in relation to bus stops and the problem is very deep-rooted. Instead of continuing to put more cars on the road in response, it’s high time that these daft politicians were taken to task over this...

The key,Richard,is put it in writing.....
Keep a copy and keep it a simple request for a reconsideration of the stop location on safety grounds...
The moving finger writes...and having writ, moves on.....!

Alek is probably right, but I am more likely to make my concerns known to DB than the Guards, who I honestly think would treat me as a local busybody - of whom there are many in the area!

Richard is very close to upsetting a VERY unstable apple cart here.
The area of Bus Stop allocation and placement is a bit of a warm tuber at the moment.
The generally accepted theory up until recently has been that Bus Stop requests were essentially down to Dublin Bus telling the local authority that it wished to site a Stop at XYZ and then gettin a disinterested nod from the elders.
However since the Wellington Quay disaster, when some rather arkward points were made in the media regarding the entire Bus Stop allocation procedure.
In the immediate aftermath of Wellington Quay there were a number of statements from the various "interested parties" as to the ACTUAL procedure followed.
It appears that the Operator now makes the initial request which is then considered by the relevant sub-committees INCLUDING the general planning authorities.
These in depth deliberations produce a concrete proposal which then MUST be ratified by the Gardai either local or central through the Traffic Corps.
The Gardai have FINAL say in the matter of the location.
Now what makes the present situation interesting is the promise made immediately folowing the Wellington Quay disaster that a Full Safety Review of ALL Dublin Bus stops would be carried out as a matter of urgency.
As matters stand we can only assume that this mammoth task is still ongoing and that when complete a comprehensive analysis of the Citywide situation will then be laid before the relevant Authorities and the general public who after all,as Richard typifies, are the end users and those who are most at risk from poorly sited Bus Stops and Associated infrastructure.
What happened in relation to the 14A-Palmerston Park journeys is simply a case of being seen to cover all bases in response to local political issues and then being unable to square this with the on-the-ground operational reality.
A simple plate clearly pointing out that the initial Stop is in use by Palmerston Park journeys ONLY would suffice as long as it was acompanied by Clear Instructions to ALL appropriate drivers in relation to its use.
The situation which Richard describes is a potentially dangerous one from a road traffic point of view as it introduces an element of indecision and attendant poor road placement of an 11 Metre long moving vehicle.
This indecision is what leads to accidents and is totally avoidable if some safety centred common sense is utilized by those who are supposed to be dripping with the stuff.
For what it`s worth I would see Richards first option as being a letter or e-mail to Rathmines Garda Station pointing out the dangers inherent in this arrangement and requesting a response to his concerns.
While his pen is poised he could perhaps also ask the nice member in charge if a Safety Audit had been carried out at that location and perhaps sight of a copy of that audit might help thank you very much a chara.
The single most important issue which we in Ireland constantly practice is to STOP giving out shyte to the Monkeys and instead transmit our concerns, questions and observations to the many Organ Grinders who,it appears are never questioned about the quality of their music.

I often need to get off the 14A on Upper Rathmines Road, Southbound. There is a perfectly good stop just above the junction with Church Ave, but because some buses are now serving Palmerston Road, a second stop has been put in just below that junction. The upper stop is nearer where I am going, but drivers have invariably been stopping at the lower stop whether or not they are going to Palmerston. A couple of drivers have been shirty with me when, after they halted at the lower stop I asked them go on and drop me at the upper stop, one even saying I should only have pushed the bell in the 5-second interval between the 2 stops. This whole situation is very silly, and I think that DB might as well take away the upper stop and be done with it.
