Thanks for the kind words Thomas, this site would be nothing without it's contributors (as this thread clearly shows).

Regarding your question on the imps, I was under the impression that imps were being replaced with double deckers, not the other way around. I don't use the route in questions, anybody else care to shed some light on this?

Al,me oul segosha....you were obviously payin atention when the lessons were being read out.The "Old" LUAS order under CIE`s Donal Mangan had done quite a bit of investigating into where exactly the Tram pax (ahem) were going to come from.
In spite of all the initial media hype about reducing private car traffic,LUAS was never intended as a serious tool for decreasing car usage.
There was at least one large scale report compiled for the CIE-LRPO (Light Rail Project Office) which went into some detail on the scale of bus service reductions or eliminations which would be feasible when LUAS commenced operations.
This report from a French consultancy SEMALY s.a. made many observations and recommendations concerning bus services in the Tallaght area.
Given that that report was compiled when the CIE group expected to be the operator of LUAS it can be imagined that the scale of reductions which will be demanded by ConneX in order to satisfy its shareholders needs for dividends will be greater still, especially since the Bus will be regarded by the RPA/ConneX as a COMPETITOR rather than as part of the same overall public transport service.
Indeed the news today concerning the 10mtr difference in length between Luas Tramcar sets for Line A and Line B reveals yet more evidence of befuddlement at the highest levels.
It appears that the RPA/ConneX are prepared to operate two different standards of "Crush Loading" for its two lines. It appears as if there is some form of social engineering afoot....
And while Im at it......whatever became of Donal Mangan`s High Court case to have him confirmed as CX of the RPA in preference to Frank Allen who`s impeccable Bankers brogue is becoming familiar to Radio listeners as he reads yet another fairy story along the lines of Mad Cow Jumps over the LUAS at Red Cow....
I nearly swallowed my brain when I heard the bould Frank tell an expectant nation live on-air that LUAS movements at the Mad Cow sliproads would have "Negligable effect" on Traffic flow.
Why oh Why did somebody not propose elevating Line A as it came from Long Mile Road juncton and take it over the Roundybout before dropping back down onto the M50.
Forward Planning ???

Mr. Sheridan: How does one who now lives in the USA get to join Platform 11, if you don’t mind my asking? I tried to write the information e-mail address, but got a rather non-committal response.

Regarding the bus route 90, rumours still are that it is going the way of the dinosaur once the Luas Line A comes on-line, like it is stated that many other bus routes will vanish or get drastically reduced service if they happen to be running parallel to Luas routes (examples include 13B, 90, 123 for now).

IMHO, the 122 ought to have remained the 22. That is a route which remained virtually unchanged, even more so versus changing the 34 to the 134 (apart from running via Ratoath Road) and definitely warranted continued double-deck operation. Same applies today, no matter what the route number is.

There are some really good ideas on busrage.com and great discussion. As a regular passenger on the 122, I have noticed that the the buses keep getting smaller and smaller. Imps replacing double-deckers on a busy route. Any reason for this?

Also, does anybody have any ideas what is going to happen to the No 90 when the LUAs comes on stream? Will it continue to service Heuston?

cheers
Thomas Sheridan
Platform11

www.platform11.org
