And how did that deficit come about, more lining of the pockets of corrupt politicians...? As it stands, IE are now talking more railway closures instead of expansion. Sounds like the new Navan line's off the table for now.
What I want to know is, how could IE have rationally abandoned freight operations that were actually *profitable* a year ago??? Did they really expect that they could have done without the revenue?? Ah well...more lorries on the road then, generating more "tax revenue" that of course will not be applied towards building much-needed motorways (meaning everlasting traffic jams), not to mention more sulphuric carcinogens being spewed into the once-pristine air of Éire. (With all this road-tax revenue, they could restore so many railway lines to better-than-new condition PLUS complete the motorways in about the space of 1½ years, really.)
Has IE completely lost focus? They got rid of profitable freight rail service, now they're looking to close more routes. Makes no sense to me.

: €40? That's a massive increase, don't you know... sorry, I know you mean 40c.
: Dublin Bus has been uncharacteristically fair during the Euro changeover, and to be fair to the drivers, I wouldn't want to be dealing in two currencies either. My fair of £1.15 is at €1.45, which is a penny cheaper.

Sheesh...I'll be able to use the term "cents" when I go back home this year. I'm still in shock...

Not if you've got the correct change.
Dublin bus have replaced their thoroughly rediculous policy of giving a change docket that virtually no-one can be bothered their arse to cash in, with a new even more rediculous policy of keeping your change all together.
Good one for the profit margin but yet another example of their total disregard for the customer.

I used to pay 35p for a schoolboy, but I never had the change and ended up putting in two 20p's instead. Im happy to see Im not being ripped off anymore (5p may not be alot but it adds up). Now my fair is only 40€, no more wasted change!

[posted by: The Dude]

The Euro changeover has begun, and things seem to be going smoothly. Most people I've seen on the bus are quite savvy to the new currency.
Has anyone here had, or seen, any problems?
