Little boys should be see and not heard. especially a little ignoramus like yourself. There is no such word as Aint so try going to school next week and leave these discussions to the adults. I have worked in transport for 20 years so if you want to know anything about timetables or anything else then ask nicely. There is nothing you can tell me that I dont already know.
[posted by: a2000]

I would imagine that the programme would highlight the fact that we now expect a bad service and we get it. On or off peak. traffic or no traffic. DB will blame anyone but themselves. How many people look at thier bus at the terminus while the driver stands talking? Then he starts adjusting scrolls and ticket macines at the time the bus should depart before loading up. most buses depart 5 mins late because of this practice. And inspectors watch. If you ring DB you are told "traffic" this is before you even state what route you are complaining about. The programme cant make anything worse but can highlight that traffic is not entirely to blame for the disgrace that is dublin city services.
[posted by: a2000]

With all respect, I feel your programme has been done many times before, we all know the problems with roads and trains in ireland and everybody is aware of the issues, what difference will you programme make? Transport 21 was announced a few months back so you may find the answers to a lot of your questions there. I just don't think watching a programme of a young family struggling to get to work on time particularly interesting. Wait a few years and if things have not changed you will have something more substantial than an "outraged comuter" moaning about the M50. I think parents are more concerned about the high creche prices and the housing market which still needs urgent attention. While transport is an issue for many young families, you would need to address the balance of why they need to put their kids into the creche... possibily so they can work to pay the high mortgage on house they had to buy on the outskirts of Dublin or surrounding counties and then all of them to expect to get to their desk in the city for 9am. Yes, the transport system is outdated but there is a plan in place to correct that, what is the purpose of your tv programme? Is it to reveal something new about the transport habits of people or just a simple moan similar to 'Airport' or some other fly on the wall show?
[posted by: P.]

Oh yeah, and P11 need to stop worrying about WOT. They won't get a government grant to reopen the Tuam-Collooney line; they won't steal any money away from needed Dublin or other urban rail projects.

The government is always going to play political rugby with the rail transport issue.

Well, to be frank...if the Interconnector's the answer, what was the question? Dublin's needed more rail options since 1990. The Luas ain't cutting it; they ordered trams that don't MU and built platforms that are no longer than forty metres, and fare collection is questionable...never mind increasing maintenance costs and spare-parts inventories for the government over the course of several decades down the road due to not building the system as DART to begin with.

People are asking to convert lines like Connolly-Maynooth and Pearse-Drogheda to "DART" when they really mean to convert them to electrified commuter rail (which DART is not). The DMUs currently in service on those lines can run everywhere that the DART can anyway, plus they have on-board restrooms.

IE themselves are too full of conflicts of interest to be really focussed on rail to begin with. How about forcing Roadliner out of their hands?

I agree 110%.Whats the point in building a metro to the AIRPORT when a DART could do it in just about the same time while serving a wider area. This would save on costs and more people would have acess to the DART with the interconnector tunnel.

Darren

Cash is not really an issue for commuters. Time is

Speaking of cash, just recall all of that which was spent on the QBCs, to little avail it seems. Those magical corridors were supposed to make the bus more time-sensitive than the automobile, but they were underinvested in, with public monies no less (and that's your cash).

Not to mention that spending on rail transportation was indeed supposed to up the ante in terms of beating the auto as well. Instead, you get Luas, which is too little compared to what rail is capable of carrying, and even worse, there were street-bound alignments built.

And let us not get rights and privileges mixed up. Driving is a privilege, no matter how much you pay for it. And it's largely due to over-dependence on, and over-use of, the automobile that has made time-sensitivity such an issue when it comes to commuting.

Well al, insurance ect would only be a factor if I only made this one specific journey but my outgoings on the car are justified consiodering the travelling i do as well as going to the town the odd day in the month. Cash is not really an issue for commuters. Time is so it can be to your advantage to pay a little extra for that 1/3 hour more with the kids in the evening. What i spend on the car annually is less than the cost of an annual bus only ticket. If people choos eto use their car then they have the right to do so as they are paying dearly for the privilege.
[posted by: a2000]

Illegal parking should be raised to the level of being felonious. (Although, having the former Dublin & Bray Railway running on the street is a crime in and of itself...)

Anyway, back on topic; it is still not necessary for the railway to be closed in order to make platforms longer. Nowhere else in the world is this done. The people in Dublin ate it when the South-side closures were forced on them—and why?? If they had raised enough of a stench about it, then the DART could have stayed open on weekends. Now they have to eat it for the North-side conversion. Speaking up is what will get things done...
