with regard its timing. I know and accept that there will always be occasional times when buses simply cannot leave the terminus on time, but I get this bus from Hawkins St several times a week and I swear it NEVER leaves on time. In comparison to the 46a - another high frequency route - it is disgraceful - what's the explanation?

From my local bustop (ie: not at either terminus), I've often been waiting 30 mins for a 39 even though they are supposed to go every ten minutes.

What's most frustrating (intriuging?) about this is that I genuinely have no other complaints about other buses I take. I'm not one of these ''Dublin bus sucks!!'' people. The 37 and 70 always seem to leave the termini on time. I find the 66 and 67a pretty reliable. The 46a is excellent, as are most of the xpressos to UCD. So why is the 39 so unreliable?

Every ten mins my arse!

(also, why do some townbound 39s state the destination is ''westmoreland st'', not ''hawkins st'' ? I'm geussing this is because Hawkins St gets overcrowded with buses at times but this just adds to my frustration of this route!)

I have been using the 79/79A service for some time now. I have never come across a route that is managed on such an ad-hoc basis. The timetable appears merely aspirational. Most (with a few exceptions) of the drivers saunter along at a lethargic pace with a view to missing their next departure time. Any enquiries to inspectors on Aston Quay are met with hostility as if one asked an impertinent question - they seem too much in cahoots with the drivers they pretend to manage. Problems cannot all be laid at the door of traffic congestion as other routes leaving Aston Quay seem to fare a lot better (51B,78A, 90 etc.etc.). It has to be a candidate for the worst most inconsistent bus service in Dublin.

Hey,I was on the 40D last nite and a rock was thrown at the bus. i didnt notice it till it smashed the window to the right of my head and the rock barely missed me and my friend. If it had hit us one of us was dead. It was a huge rock. I heard this has happened a few times. Something should be done before someone is killed. Any one else witness this?

Both of these routes I use reguarly to and from Ballyfermot. Both these routes service guinness brewery and kilmainham gaol. I have yet to be on one where some lout down the back isn't smoking a cigarette or something more exotic. I am ashamed when I see tourists look at each other in disgust. If pubs can be policed for smoking laws 2 years after the law change how come buses like these routes cant 2 decades later.
[posted by: Dave]

I can't seem to see previous rants in this, which surprises me. I take the 11 to/from work, and in the evening during rush hour, there appears to be nothing but 11Bs, which goes only as far as the Clonskeagh gate of UCD.

Dublin Bus might argue this is to facilitate students, but as there are, at most, three people who stay on, it appears quite exclusionist of the busload of remaining bus users who would want to go to Kilmacud. It makes no business nor socila sense to maintain the route. (For those of you who do not know the area, it is about a ten minute walk from the Clonskeagh gate into the heart of UCD. The poor poor students' legs!!)

Can someone from DB explain this illogical over use of 11B during rush hour, spring, summer, autumn and winter?
[posted by: Dave]

I have become heartily sick of the futility of e-mailing complaints to Dublin Bus. Therefore I have started CC'ing all complaints to as many internal management figures as possible. I browse a search engine for as many addresses as I can find and include them in all communications. I have only recently started but will happily post all valid e-mail addresses if anyone is interested. I look forward to hearing from you all on this topic. Thank you.

The new extention of the 14A to Dundrum Luas "interchange" has come at the expense of the 48A, with services cut by 50+% I can understand this outside the peak, but the morning buses have always been heavily patronised, and this new timetable will only force these patrons into their cars as a 40minute base service is neither reliable or practical, as the old 15minute service was. The route from dundrum to town has also been elongated by the reverse loop created on the 14/A. This means that both sides of Dundrum Main Street provide services to town, meaning confusion as the literature provide by DB has been lacklusture at best (even the destination blinds on the 14/A are far from clear) What was meant to be a service improvement for the people of Dundrum has just left many regular users with a bad taste in their mouths, and although it is good to see that the 48A has not been scrapped altogether, the patrons should never have been put in this untenable position in the first place. If the new 48A service reduction is supposed to address the passenger deficit in relation to an Luas, then ConneX will make yet more PPP money as more and more bus users turn to an Luas in the face of an increaingly shoddy 48/44 corridor!
[posted by: David]

And I wonder to myself........On routes such as the 10, 27, 39, 78A or 123, the gap between buses at peak times is 7 to 10 minutes. Yet what do people do when they see one of these buses about to pull away from a stop?.......That's right, PANIC!!!!!!! They start to sprint like Linford Christie,
They hurl themselves infront of oncoming traffic,
They throw themselves in front of the bus,
They bang on the windows of the bus,
They bang on the doors of the bus,
They shout,
They scream,
They wave their arms wildly.........In short, TOTAL PANIC!!!!!.......
And yet, the next bus is only 7 to 10 minutes away. For God's sake, GET A GRIP!!!!!!!!
[posted by: GO SHARP]

Iwas working into town one morning last week in a 16 minute gap as per schedule, when this prick with ears gets on and says "i've been waiting 20 minutes for this bus and everybody on the bus should complain and you would be sacked. Whilst not as idiotic as the bollock juggler Mr Angry experienced, it did give me an idea. Can any busdrivers let us know the most idiotic, the most ridiculous thing a passenger has said to them during a rant? A big fat cigar (or for non-smokers, a years free supply of bus rolls) to the winner.
[posted by: GO SHARP]

As a new driver for Aircoach, it has come to my attention the number of Taxi Drivers that attempt to "poach" our passengers at bus stops. On more than one occasion this week i had passengers complaining that a Taxi had stopped and the driver saying Aircoach wasnt running that day. Other complaints of how Taxi's have evn told some passengers that particular stops werent in use and i even caught one red-handed the other day at O'Connell Street. The passenger he was speaking to informed me that apparently he said our fares had gone up to 15EUR each way and returns werent offered anymore. Needless to say, his licence number was taken and complaint sent to the Carriage Office!

The timetable for this service should be in the fiction section of every library. eg the 0735 service from Skerries should arrive in Rush at 0750 it should take about 15 minutes. On one memorable occasion it arrived at 0825, I asked the driver why it took so long to arrive and he said "traffic". I suggested that this might not be factual and the driver suggested that if i didnt like it I could get a "f**king cab" On another occasion I smelled cigarette smoke and went to complain to the driver. No point HE was smoking himself! I contacted Dublin Bus about both of these matters and they were in such a hurry to investigate they hung up without asking my name address or phone number!

Or are they just detaining the Wright buses which use this route back in the Garage to remove stickers which were on some of these buses in relation to the special olympics.
