The rail is at a elevated section about 15-20 feet off the normal ground level, this produces (to the best of my memory) about 5 times the direct noise level apposed to noise deflecting off ground and trees. The trams travle at quite a high speed at this section, not like when they are on roads or pedestrians about. When this couple bought the house, the railway wasn't in use for many many years(how many I don't know)A simple sound barrier like we have on the side of roads would have fixed the problem. As for the houses gone up in value, I wouldn't buy it, or sleep there.I should know,I've stayed there before.I'm her brother, a humble plumber from Cork.

Trams make noise? They're among the quietest forms of transportation I've ever come across, unless the tracks are not being maintained properly or the wheels have too many flat spots.

This begs the question as to why such people bought property next to any kind of railway in the first place.

I think these people are making it up.
